Quite new to motoring so not sure exactly what to look for. Have a few k spare and work are now giving me a car allowance so might as well buy one.
Have narrowed down my choice of car to either a second hand Audi TT or Merc SLK. Budget up to 10k.
For those out there that know a thing or two about cars which one would you take and why?
Are either cars known for any issues?

Are you new to driving? If so I'd get a few insurance quotes first. Is it a TT convertible you're looking at (like the SLK)?

I had a 180bhp quattro TT and I found it pretty bulletproof.
Dashpod can give trouble as well as engine coil packs and engines that didnt get proper oil changes will give up but if you get one that was looked after reasonably, then you should have a good car. I got none of the above problems over 3 years of ownership and the car having over 100,000 miles on it. And they do handle pretty good regardless of what people say about it only being a golf is a fancy dress.

I am new so I realise insurance is going to be around the €1500 mark. Convertible would be preferable.

A lot will depend on age etc but make sure to get actual quotes. You may get a surprise. If you go into it with this in mind happy days:D

A Mazda MX5 might be worth looking into also if you want a convertible. Lower running costs etc.
