have a iphone 4 on pre-pay ( used company upgrade ) anyway , im on a deal were you top up by €30 a month and you get €40 credit , free internet , free text to any network which is great

    1. i topped up 10th feb 2011
    2. By 14th feb it had wiped out all my credit , all €34 of it because i apparently went over the monthly allowance WTF , i use it mostly on my wifi at home and hardly on 3G
    3. Called vodafone and they in fairness re-inburst me €20 which was all well and good , but with 2 hours that was gone
    4. i called them and they said i was using it at 9.28 to 10.07 this particular night ( valentines night ) but i was in the cinema watching a movie so couldnt be online , as i had my 3G turned off and data turned off ???

so called again and they said to call into a customer rep in one of their stores to see if i have an app which runs in the backgound etc , which i dont ( ive pretty basic apps ) went into airside and blanch to be told that they can't solve the issue that i have to call vodafone again etc

so now at this point im afraid to top up as i dont want to be raped on my credit

Go into Settings, General, Network and Slide Cellular data to off.

This is something will happen again and again. To be honest, if you top up every monrh by 30 euro, for an extra 2.50 a week you should consider going bill pay. I switched from VF PAYG to 3 bill pay and haven't looked back.

May I ask what exactly you are doing on it to use up so much data?

It's you apn settings, you are connected to the vodafone isp apn when you should be configured for live.

I don't use PAYG, but I would restore and activate with the PAYG sim, and update the carrier setting. It should work

I am using this same price plan with no problems, i use about 100mb out of the 250mb per month (Facebook/Twitter and some news apps). Besides once you go over your limit i thought they would only charge you the standard €1 a day for the internet!

Yes, 99c for 50mb, I believe. However, to use up 20€ of credit in 2 hours suggests a) streaming or other intense activity and b) not using the Live! APN (but which should be the default APN anyway).
