    http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/03/03/trent-reznor-abraham-lincoln-vampire-hunter/

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails fame, who made the transformation to Oscar-winning composer with the score for last year’s The Social Network, is in talks to join Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox confirms that the studio is currently negotiating to lure Reznor aboard, not only to supply the film’s music, but to play Jack Barts, the vampire who kills Lincoln’s mother and sets the hero on his path of righteous vengeance.

Already cast is Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd Lincoln and Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper playing Lincoln’s best friend and mentor, respectively.

    Sounds like a STV deal!

Actually, it's being directed by Timur Bekmambetov (who did Day Watch, Night Watch and Wanted).. so odds are it will go to cinemas.

It kind of sounds very like a Bubba Ho-Tep type movie. Could be good, but I'll wait to hear more (although Mary Elizabeth Winstead is always good to see!).

    Tim Burton is producing

Anyone read the book? I've read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which is also getting made into a movie but this sounds better. Cryin shame Liam Neeson didn't sign up for this after dropping out of the Spielberg Abe Lincoln one.

One name and one profession I never thought I'd see in a movie title.

    I'm in.

cannot wait to see that, great looking trailer!

Anyone else think he's a bit too young to be playing Abe? Or is this set in his youth or something? Not read the book.

Still looks great. I really liked Wanted and Nightwatch.

Well that was ... uh, bizarre. Though did serve the purpose of reminding me to see Nightwatch. First Iron Sky, now this - so if Grindhouse has gone all mainstream, is it really Grindhouse anymore?

It's set over a longish periof of tiem id say.
It's easier to make a person look older for the later scenes than the reverse

I think that might be a framing device, in that the film starts in the modern day as someone tells the "real" story of Lincoln, and then they go back to the time it happened.

Maybe, i thought the whole scene looked a bit off.
Still strange to stick it in the middle of the trailer and not the start.

I would have been very keen on this but the 3D thing is somewhat off putting.

The 3D aspect shouldn't make that much of a difference to a film. I'm actually really looking forward to this. It's not high art but I do loves me some bizarro supernatural hijinx :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

Ah it's a principle of mine.
I refuse to pay extra...and the vast majority of 3d films these days are (trying to) use the 3d to mask that it's a ****e film.

With Prometheus out next week and this out a few weeks later, June will be a decent month for cinema :D

    Anyone seen this yet?

Thought it was very entertaining. Some questionable effects of the ilk you'd see on SyFy but they actually added to the entertainment for me. Went to see it in 2D and I was glad I did because it's very dark at times which I'd imagine wouldn't translate to 3D well. Well worth a look IMO

Actually really want to see this, looks like it may be a really cheesy kind of "horror" at times, but I love those types.

I enjoyed this. It has the right amount of over the top action and story for good viewing.

The 3D was subtle but well used.

It won't set the world alight but it's entertaining none the less.

I thought the fight scenes were spectacular. It is definately made for 3d. The premise for the tale is a bit questionable though.

    Most were but
the wild horses scene where they are jumping from horse to horse was hilariously bad :)

I thought the spoilered scene added some comic charm to the film.

Not sure how to spoiler but there was one inconsistency that stuck out.

I enjoyed it. Its not going to win any awards, and I dont even mean raspberries but it was a solidly good fun movie. Yes the horses bit was bad and we got some dirty looks for laughing but c'mon!!!

The action sequences were really good (I saw it in 2D) and I think the actor playing Lincoln (who resembled a young Liam Neeson) was great.

I'd say it'll be a nice change from the usual action movie/vampire movie fair.

    saw this today.

i wouldve sworn blind it'd be the worst pile of shyte ever to grace gods earth but instead it turned out to be fanstastic !

i cant belive im typing that but its was the most fun i'd had at the cinema in ages.

the whole flim just has this lovely flair going through it with some of the best 3D ive seen in an years.

thats pretty much the only problem i have with it as i now have a splitting headace from it as it was incredibly 3D heavy, but it was worth it for what i got.

its even sneakily educational FFS ! Hitting all the beats of the mans life.

    :D

i really really liked it and would have no problem recomending it to anyone that fancies a good stylish action flick with some great set peices and likeable characters.

it might be the maddest notion for a film ive heard since iron sky but it turned out to be a cracking little flick.

    8/10.

and im not being generous. really pleasant surprise.

Saw it last night as well. I really enjoyed it. It was ridiculous at times, but it's a film about Abe Lincoln fighting vampires...of course it's going to be ridiculous. But the story was good, some nice real life events/characters thrown in, and the fight scenes were great. Loved the axe spinning :)

Regarding the 3D...I've been very critical of 3D in films lately. I can't think of any films recently that really did it well, bar the odd bit in Prometheus. But this was fantastic. Normal scenes had some excellent depth, and there were plenty of great moments in the fight scenes. From bits of dust floating in the air, to the usual flying knives...it's (imo) probably the best use of 3D in a film since Avatar.

Saw it today and thought it was good fun. Completely ridiculous but still entertaining and remarkably a little educational too

Finally caught this movie last night and was happy enough with it. Just one or two conflicting things about it.

Some parts of the film I found to be quite silly, which is fine considering the films premise but wasn't fine when you consider the films tone throughout. It was like they forgot that there was supposed to be a huge dollop of humour with the films premise and tried to make it a completely believeable piece of work.
So all throughout I found the movie conflicting with itself on both of it's sides.

After that I thought that when the movie reached the third act it completely lost steam and changed from some sort of actgion slasher movie to some sort of political drama.

Ultimately though, it was entertaining and mostly did what it said on the tin.

Certainly not without its flaws, but on balance I enjoyed it.

The fight scenes are quite a mixed bag. Some of the time I found myself impressed with the choreography, which was easy on the eyes
(particularly the scene where Abe crashes the vampire ball to rescue Will)
; other sequences suffered from the ropiest of special effects
(the scene with the horses had me cringing)
, and the director seemed to suffer from a Zack Snyder-esque fetish of slow motion which got a bit tedious.
Also, the film seemed to lose the run of itself during the finale with that train scene - the film had a ludicrous enough premise to begin with, but that really tested my suspension of disbelief. It also looked pretty horrendous, especially when Abe confronts Adam on the burning bridge.

What I liked about it was how they weaved the fictional with non-fictional elements of the story by working the presence of vampires into Lincoln's freedom of the slaves. I've heard that the book does this quite well too, so I'm tempted to read it.

Yeah the slow-mo thing is a nuisance but it seems to be a staple ingrediant of 3D action movies now. With that slow booming bass sound which started with Michael Bays Transformers and is now also overly present in every 3d action film.

Going to echo what already been posted, this film was very good one of the best of the year so far for me only downfall the movie needed more of Marton Csokas

I thought the actor playing Abe looked like Eric Bana myself

Dominic Cooper was excellent as Henry

    Saw this last night...

It should have been terrible. Everything about it screamed that it would be - Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I mean.. come on. Many a time I had thrown my eyes to Heaven when browsing for books. Just seemed like lazy story writing to me.

So had extremely low hopes when I popped it on...

and I was amazed. The fight scenes were great (
even the ludicrous one involving horses[/spoiler), the acting was a lot better than I had thought, the effects were good, and there was a decent amount of gore.
