Can anyone please advise if I would be eligible for redundancy.

I work in a semi-state company and I was originally on a 1 and a half year fixed term contract which was then renewed for 2 years my contract expires on the 19th May 2011 and I am on maternity as of 29th April. Would I be eligible?

Also I am co-habiting with my partner who has been unemployed for over 2 years and was not eligible for any money from the social welfare as they are means testing him on my wages, once I am on maternity (only getting state payment of €270) is he now eligible for social welfare and will we be eligible for Rent relief?

As you can imagine the stress levels are soo high at the minute and everyone is giving me different replies.:confused::confused:

Any information on the above will be great fully appreciated

I would previously have said "no you're fixed-term not permanent, so redundancy doesn't apply" - although I have seen threads on here where people have claimed that it can apply. I'm not sure what the rules for that are though (can't quite get my head around it, TBH).

Re rent-allowance: given that you will be on welfare, you may be eligible. It depends on what other assets you have, and also whether your rent is below the maximum level for the situation you are living in ... and also on whether your landlord is prepared to accept it. The only way to find out for certain is to ask your community welfare officer. The Welfare office can tell you where to find them, and hopefully what hours they hold clinics (expect it to only be a few hours every week).

I was in the exact same situation while on maternity.

Partner means tested so no JSA while I was working.

Then I went on Mat, and he got full JSA / BTEA.

If you have enough PRSI contributions you will get full mat benefit: 262 euro per week.

When I had my daughter he got and extra €14 (should be 14 euro each but this is not paid to people receiving mat benefit.

but even with 1 dependent we are above the threshold for a medical card, still apealling.

Not entitled to fuel allowance as 262 mat is too high.

You could apply for rent all, but you would have to put your name on the housing list.

Also there are ceilings for every area, have a look at them to see how much you would still have to pay.

Once your Mat benefit is finished you should have a year of JSB after wards as you are credited a PRSI contribution while on mat benefit.

In realtion to redundance, I don't think you are elidgable but def go see the citzens info before you leave work.

Under the Maternity Protection Act, 1994, yo are entitled to return to your previous job and and claim your holidays for the time you were away so provisions will have to be made before you leave.
