The Port Tunnel

It occured to me the other night. Is the port tunnel an excuse to get aviation fuel to the airport ?

Port Tunnel to the M1 , now we have the M1 upgrade works. Is there something wrong with the pipeline?

I have also noted less aviation tankers on the roads the last few years. Even when the tunnel would be closed.

    Just a thought .

Cause they did ask for a pipe line and it was rejected!

Would these works be **beyond** the airport?

What ? I don't get why you called me an idiot. Really no need for it to be honest with you Victor.

I never said there was a pipeline, it's just something I was thinking about the other day on the M1, just thought too share it here.

i don't know about the pipe line but i heard the the real reason the port tunnel was built was to give access to the port area which was planned to be tuned
into a type of Casino hub and move the port to the north of Balbriggan. The idea was to fly all the rich Casino players in and give them quick access. A
    type of Monte Carlo!!

I heard the idea was to take heavy lorries off the quays and out of the city centre, improving traffic flow and safety.

    Nuts, huh? :)

LOL. Yes i head that too. I would be the first to admit i would be of a little
suspicious of a lot of things but its just my nature and yes i know what your saying and your right but as i said that's what i heard. Also though when the port tunnel was being build i do know that the lorry drivers and a lot of people connected with the transport in Dublin Port expressed concerns about
the height of the tunnel. All containers that come in to the port are 9th 6th, to high to pass through the tunnel but these concerns where ignored and they didn't announce the new port moving form Dublin until the port tunnel was nearly built but this was probably down to stupidity more than anything else. OR was it !!!! LOL

This isn't fully accurate. The tunnel can comfortably fit a double decker bus. Some people wanted it taller to fit the huge cargo trucks that you sometimes find in Europe, but they aren't used here, so there was no point. Any trucks that are too big can still use the normal route through the city and won't cause any traffic problems.

It was just that some people decided it made better headlines to pretend it was too small for trucks.

since there has to be a 300m gap when a tanker goes through a tunnel , they reduce throughput and presumably loose revenue

and no one wants to consider what would happen if a tanker caught fire in the tunnel
