Hello my horrible family was able to find out where i live from the gardai and have been causing me nothing but grief ever since.
I am 22 and have never been in trouble with the law so can someone tell me how on earth the gardai even had this information on me to begin with?
I'm originally from Wexford and live in Waterford City now so what can i do to stop this same thing happening when i rent a new apartment after my lease on this one is up or do i have to just leave the country altogether?

I suspect they are lying. They found out some other way.

Make a complaint of harassment to the Garda, stating that they claim to have obtained information grom the Garda. It may be useful for you to have a solicitor to state your position.

You would be surprised what information the Garda has on everyone.

the freedom of information act means you are entitled to know who gave information about you if it did come from a garda station , but I suspect that maybe it was someone else that told your family your whereabouts!!!

    Firstly , they are lying.

    No one is going to walk into a Garda station;

Sorry do you know where this family member is, insert name ?

Garda, yes the person is living at blah blah. Have a nice day.

Now even if the Garda did know where you are staying, I would be 110% certain, they would give you a ring first to see if you wanted to make contact with your family.

    --

Second part. If they are causing you hassle, get the Garda in the know. Even if you don't want them to do anything it's better they have a record of this . Pulse would hold up to date information on your person.

If you want to jump town again. I suggest you cut all ties with anyone that may know someone from your family, that way no one will know where you are living.

Also I may be wrong, but there is a limit too the information you get back from the Garda on what they know about you?

stupid question but why would your uncle give someone who wants to cause you harm your whereabouts , if you know for a fact he did report him to his superintendent !!! he might be slow to give out information then or try the garda ombudsman either thats what they are there for !!!!

Jeez Pad never do that anyway, nothings worth that kind of decision. Talk to a lawyer, it might cost a few quid but well worth it.

you might find someone trustworthy here http://www.rate-your-solicitor.com/

Thanks very much but im not looking for any further hassle/drama i just want to know how i can avoid this in the future because if i move and the same thing happens it'd be a nightmare. :(

its a tough one but depending on where the info is comming from u would need to use your name as little as possible, to the point of changing it even?

If i was in your position, i would most probably just google "how to disappear". To my knowledge there are quite a few books with educated tips on doing just that. Hope that helps. Stay safe!

    heres a link http://everything2.com/title/How+to+disappear+completely+and+never+be+found

As H&M said earlier a solicitor might be the best person to talk to about your overall situation. A quick warning to your uncle that you may report him to the ombudsman may stop him being so stupid in the future.

If you've had no dealing with the gardai since you moved it's unlikely your uncle got your details from the Garda system. There are many ways people can find this info. Register of electors for one.

This is also on PULSE and a lot easier to find somebody than having to go through a whole city / county / country printed version.

That's true. It still wouldn't be a breach of privacy though as the information is already in the public domain.

Why do you think they tell you to go to a garda station as one of the places to check if you are on the register? Also, re the register, ever wonder how the parties and independents get your home address? Its not a secret.

PULSE is a closed system only used by the GARDAI , no one has accesss to the information on PULSE bar the gardai the same as PRIS is the closed system in the prison service!!!! There is absolutly no way they get names and address from it for elections dont know where you got that one from, if that was the case we would all be allowed acess to where sex offenders are at any given time !!!!!

Yes PULSE is a closed system. But the information from the register is compiled by the Local Authorities who pass the information to the Gardaí. Just like they do with road tax and insurance. Just like the insurance companies will have to do once the new Road Traffic Act is given its enactment date.

Well its not an offence for your uncle to tell your parents where you live if he knows where you live.

If you feel the only way he found out was misuse of the pulse system off you go to the GSOC's office.

I would be almost certain your family are lying. The gardai would not provide that sort of information it's confidential. Once you are over eighteen you're entitled to do whatever you want.

If you rent your place I think there is some sort of Landlords Register, which has your RSI number etc.

I assume the Gardai can access this.
