Our priest told us about them and suggested it as part of the ceremony. He said our florist would probably supply them. I've just enquired and they don't. Does anything know anything about them or where's best to get them? Can you just get them from any website or do they have to be religious somehow? :o

We got ours on ebay- really nice job with roses on them and our own poem. We also got two smaller candles (you light these first as a sing of being separate individuals and then the main as a sign of unity) Makes a lovely momento of the day too and we got the two smaller ones with our separate surnames on - lovely momento for the mammies.

I got mine on ebay too, from these guys:

Took about 3 weeks to deliver.

You can also just buy plain white candles in a shop if you want, they don't have to be religious or have any significance.

Also, i thought you had to do this as part of the ceremony, I didn't think it was optional!

I just went out and bought a plain white pillar candle, it was something like €9, and then had two plain white taper candles for the 'before' ones. We gave them to the florist the week before and she made a flower arrangement with them in it.

That sounds like a nice idea!

It looked really well, it just sat on the altar but it was sorta nice to dress the candles up a bit since they were just plain. I actually think the taper candles were given to us by Accord when we did our pre-marriage course. Here's a pic of the flowers
