Lots of discomfort but no real pain.
Have a few stitches and a little blood but thats it.
On a pain scale bout the same as having a extraction.

The implant was to replace a tooth which had a long history of causing abcess and could not be saved, so the bone area took a few months to re-grow .

The implantologist after he had me opened up , was not entirely happy with the quality and quantity of bone he discoved in there, but decided rather than sew me back up, to go ahead anyway as he said that it may still be successful, or it may not,

Will take about 4 months till we know how its doing.
But In any case he think it will eventually be successful even if he has to redo a new implant, just a matter of longer time.

Im glad i did not go abroad to get this treatment done on the cheap.

Peace of mind that the clinic is close by is worth every penny especially as the implant may fail.

you're making me nervous now! have implant surgery coming up in the not too distant future!!

ive already had a bone graft done, so im hoping the procedure will be less intrusive than that!!

im presuming you've got swelling? is it bad?

Very little swelling, not bad at all, just uncomfortable.
Dont worry , nothing to be afraid of.

    Hi Michael,

Do mind if I ask how much it cost and what brand of implant you got. I have to get a similar procedure done and I'm not sure if I can afford it.

Finally got around to getting my implant work done recently. First stage was completed, bone graft and implant placement. Will need to have the surgeon check the implant in a few months before the abutment and crown work is done. It was the most painless thing I've ever had done in a dentist chair! ( Mind you, the sedation helped a lot:) ).

Post op, there was no pain or discomforture.I was warned that there might be swelling, but I didn't experience any. After years of dentures and bridges, I can't wait to get the work completed. It's not the cheapest option, but by far the best IMHO.

I'm going to have to go for this sometime in the future (awaiting baby teeth to fall out first as the dentist who'll be doing my work told me that this would be best). I'll need a bone graft most likely as well - just wondering do they do this at the same time at the implant or earlier? I know I asked the dentist but that was over a year ago and I've forgotten now.

Also - what is it like to eat with the implant at that stage? Thanks

I had my bone graft and implant placement done at the same time. Depending on the amount of bone, the implant can be done either at the same time as the graft, or a few months after the graft.

As for eating with the implant, they just put my bridge back on, with temporary bonding gell, and I was eating normally the next day. I took it easy biting down on apples etc, as the implanted tooth is one of the upper front and center ones (#7). After a few days, once the stitches dissolved, I started to forget the implant was there.

got the implant done last week, much much easier than i was expecting! no pain, swelling or bruising really. was actually feeling grand that night to eat too! worst part is getting the local anaesthetic injection, but thats over before you know it! was totally fine after one or two days. hard work done now. hopefully i can smile like this :D soon!!
