    Hi all,

I'm going away for a year or maybe longer in 2 weeks but I'm planning on keeping my car. I was just wondering could I keeping my car in the driveway and not pay the car tax on it till I come back or do I have to fill out some kind of form. As someone told me that they heard something about you have to pay road tax even if you don't use your car over a year on news talk fm.

Do you know if that's true?

Once its on private property you can do what ever you want. It does not need tax, insurance or an nct.

There was talk of system similar to the UK (SORN*) being introduced, but doubt it's in yet or likely to happen within 12months

Edit, in which case, as long as it is not being used (parked? or driven)on the roads then it doesn't have to be taxed, so Rodrigo Wailing Jibs post is absolutely correct
