Sorry, posted this earlier in my college thread when this thread would probably be a lot better place to get a bit of help...

Hi Guys. First time poster here. Just wondering if anyone could help me with a little problem i'm having with an electronic engineering project i'm doing. The project is on commercial lighting and i am having trouble establishing what companies supply the most common industrial lighting fixtures in the Irish market(generally between 60w to 400w). Be it street lighting, flood lighting, warehouse/ factory lighting etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated smile.gif

There's so many companies supplying lighting these days. Lots of companies are re packaging philips / osram ballasts and tubes. Lots of led lighting companies have sprung up too.

What sort of info are you looking for??

Well seen as you mention LED, the reason i'm trying to establish what the most common units are is to see if i can design a retrofit that would enable the use of LED lighting in a commercial setting. But first i have to see the most popular units and try and design the bulbs around that. I have found a lot of companies that supply, its just trying to pick the most popular one(used when a lot of commercial building, street lighting were being constructed) is proving tricky.

Cheers for the quick reply, any ideas would be great :)

I would imagine a t4 florescent tube would be the most common, but I'm not fully up to date on the numbers out there.

Lots of companies are trying to make led replacements for these.

Do you have to design the constant current driver? Or the alu clad pcb to hold the LEDs?

For LEDs look at the likes of Cree and osram..

differant companys specialise in the various types of commercial lighting and very few companys cover the full spectrum.
one such company would be THORN lighting, they do everything from standard battens to arcithectural and the industrial stuff used in warehouses, football stadiums ect. they have moved their opperations back to the uk but still supply wholesalers in this country.
with respect to the lighting in schools and offices, a lot of companys are upgrading their current modular and surface fittings to the higher output and more efficient t5 type. currently one of the biggest suppliers of this type is galaxy lighting.
as far as industrial lighting goes, for instance the high bays and high wattage fittings used on the inside and the outside of warehouses there are many companys supplying these, too many to mention. other companys are suppling high output cfl versions of son/metal halide type lamps that require no gear to run them and induction lighting seems to be taking off aswell.
