Can Derval O'Rourke win Gold in European Indoors

    Can she do it........

Nytra and vuckevic are two main contenders... both have ran 7.90 - 8.00 on a few occassions this indoor season...

Derval ran 8.03 before she got a tight groin .......

She has the heats in the morning and if she qualifies the semi around lunch and possible final at 5.40pm irish time...

i think if she can run 8.05ish in morning heats, that might be a sign she is in with a shout for gold.....

if she wants gold i feel she needs to be hitting 7.96ish 7.97ish in semi and then improve on that again in final........

then again Derval always does things different, so maybe she might scrape through in heats and semi and then improve massively in final.... maybe she wont make final ..... who knows.....

    tomorrow will tell all.....

Personally i think she will medal and after that who knows what colour...

Maybe check out the link to your previous post about the same topic ;)

Never write derval off but I don't think her preperations have gone great so I wouldn't be too optimistic.
I think mary cullen has a good chance !!!

Her preparations weren't great before Gothenburg and Berlin either and look what happened. Its not ideal that she hasnt raced but the injury was only minor by all accounts. I'm sure if we see her qualify from the heats very comfortably that will be a good sign that all is well.

    I'm saying silver.

The Cork athlete finished second in her heat behind Carolin Nytra of Germany. In Lane 7, Nytra got off to a flying start and was never headed thereafter, extending her lead slightly over the course of the race and winning in a time of 7.96seconds. O'Rourke also started well and was not far behind in Lane 6. She comfortably took second place and an automatic spot in the semi-final in 8.07seconds, .04s above her season's best to date. She will be in action next at 2.52pm.

O Rourke just finished third in her semi which qualifies her for the final this evening.

Derval will need to improve her time again if she wants a medal... gold looks to be a step to far in my opinion, with 7.90 maybe even 7.8?? being needed to win the gold.......

i hope im wrong and she takes the gold

What time is Derval running at?

I expect Derval to improve her time by another few hundreths, to maybe 7.92-7.94. I expect some of the competitors to run slower in the final than the semi, so I think she has a great chance of a medal, but gold I dont think she will get. The quality is higher than 2 years ago when 7.97 got Derval Bronze.

yep but with her, i wouldnt be shocked if she pulled out an irish record in the final, She tends to run well in finals.

4th, 7.96. First and second clocked at 7.80, she was the best of the rest.

She would have needed a NR to have just got a medal. That was world class running by the top 3. 7.96 would have medalled 2 years ago, but this time around she wasn't even close.

womens sprint hurdling is really competitive both in europe and worldwide right now. probably because the barriers are so small

Yes. You see the fella's, even the tall guys really having to work to get over them, whereas the girls at both sprint and 400 hurdles can more or less stick a leg out and get over them

You do realise that the sprint hurdles and 400 hurdles are different heights? The sprint hurdles at 2' 9" are high enough imo.
