    Hi everyone,

I am being made redundant shortly and am toying with the idea of Setting up on my own. I have 13 pqe. How much did sole practitioners pay for their insurance this year. I rang one broker who said it was in or around 11000. I have also been told by some brokers that they will not quote me as I am a new business starting up. It looks like my only hope is the smdf and a crowd in the uk.

what quotes could I be looking at?

The figure you mention would be about the lower end of the spectrum and I've heard of sole practitioners having to pay substantially more than that. By the way, in case you're not already aware of it, the Law Society is running a course for those considering setting up in practice. Depends on the practice areas and a number of other matters. If you don't do any conveyancing, for example, they will often give you a substantial discount.
