Ticket Allocation Issues. Ireland v England.

Brief background - bought 3 tickets from a club for Autumn Internationals and France v Ireland and Ireland v England games - paid extra premium as administration/club fees to the club so the tickets even worked out at more than face value. Received tickets for Autumn Internationals went and really enjoyed all matches even though not a full stadium was glad I had paid extra to be there.

Was due to receive 3 tickets for France v Ireland game (as we had already paid for them) only to receive a letter from the club stating that we would only be receiving 2 tickets (one of us obviously didnt get to go but yet ticket had been OVERPAID for)

Have now received another letter saying that we will be receiving NO icon8.gif tickets for the Ireland v England match.

Am absolutely gutted to say the least - they took our money which believe me was a lot and yet we are not getting tickets. We could have purchased tickets for the Autumn Internationals for much less than we paid for

So much for paying a premium and supporting your club when you get treated like this !!!!

Anyone else had any problems with tickets that they had bought ?

Seems ridiculous that they wouldnt give a full refund to you if they dont actually provide the tickets?

Do you have a receipt for some kind of confirmation from your payment?

    What was their excuse?

I've been saying it for years... the clubs are the new touts of Irish rugby.

One of the original reasons that clubs were given ticket allocations was to ensure that the tickets reached club members at face value.

The sale of international tickets & Heineken Cup tickets was never intended to supplement the incomes of rugby clubs.

However, duting an era of greed, clubs chose to forget their responsibility to genuine rugby supporters and up the ticket prices to what, in some cases, were absolutely ridiculous prices.

So, let's say it as it is - rugby clubs are the new ticket touts of Irish rugby, no matter how they try to dress it up.

Yes have a receipt for payment for €2025 paid between the 3 of use for all tickets - there excuse was that they were limiting tickets to people who had purchased them (LIMITING THEM TO NONE FOR ME) and issuing other members with tickets (limited to 2 per member ) - ( in other words as far as i can see taking tickets of people who paid the premium rate and attended ALL Autumn internationals and giving tickets to people who didnt) so ultimately they have got administration/club fees paid twice for the same tickets as far as I can make out.
Will post exact wording from letter later.

I'm not saying for sure that you do, but you may be able to do something legally speaking, if that was the road you wanted to go down, especially seeing as you paid them for something.

I understand that you wanted to go to the game, but it looks like you won't be able to. I'd get on the phone, record it and tell them that you are recording it for training purposes, send them an email right after you speak to them confirming what ever was said. As you paid a short while ago, demand that they pay interest on the monies you have already paid them, and that they also owe you for deposits you have made on reservations you have made. Outline it all in writing.

Some clubs are starting to loose the run of themselves a bit, and their greasing palms with tickets for all the popular internationals, it's time someone took a stand, and in your case I'm guessing it's you (unfortunately).

Couldn't agree with you more, I am so annoyed and disappointed that from now on will just stick to going to the pub with friends to watch the matches icon8.gif

I think that's a bit harsh to be honest. My club sells their allocation bundled with a lunch and some drinks for a healthy profit but if they didn’t the club would in a really difficult position financially (even worse than it is now). It's not ideal obviously but is increasingly difficult to secure sufficient funding from other sources (especially for smaller clubs).

You could be right - will talk to the others and look into it but not holding out much hope - there will probably be some small print stating the club can do as they wish with the tickets allocated to them !!!!

True, BUT something that effects your statutory rights (which this could be cos you've paid up), is made null and void and won't stand up in court, makes no difference if you agreed to it. I'm not an expert, but it might just make them stand up and take a bit of notice of you, and in the future not sell tickets twice, which is what I suspect they have done!

The IRFU have to take the blame for it. Croke park was full and the IRFU builds a stadium with a staggering 30,000 seats less. More demand and less supply means the suppliers don't have to offer a fair price.

Wasn't trying to justify your particular experience; it's obviously very unfortunate that you've been left been without a ticket. However, my point was that I don't think there is necessarily wrong anything with clubs charging a premium in order to boost their coffers and I definitely disagree that the reason for doing so is greed; in my experience it’s a necessity (I appreciate this isn’t a point you raised).

TBH i've always found this ticket system very odd. Hcup or international tickets have no regulation. You end up finding people selling tickets under the jacket and prices are not regulated whatsoever. Greed is always taking over the whole situation.

I don't understand why it is not put on sale on ticketmaster or the like with some tickets reserved for the clubs to be mandatory sold on face value. I don't really see what could be the service charge from a ticket sold at the counter from a club ...

If they don't give you your money back surely it's some form of fraud or just straight up theft?

This seems a bit odd, whatever about clubs looking for an extra sub for running the club they certainly owe the OP their money if they haven't provided the tickets, poor form from the club.

Slightly Off topic - can the thread be renamed as it might be confused with a match thread closer to the day.

As I said, and I pre-empted this sort of reply, it doesn't matter how you dress it up... the clubs are touting the tickets.

I was at a sponsored H/Cup dinner a couple of seasons ago. (somewhat against my principles). Table of 10 - €3K. Chicken & mash, a couple of glasses of plonk + a stand ticket. €300 per person.

    That's touting.

I was involved for many years at club level. We never charged a penny more than face value for international tickets. We worked hard to raise our operating funds. That's the difference.
