Spare wheel for an S-Max

I have an S-Max and while the car is fine the lack of a spare wheel is not. I have had 2 punctures in the past 6 weeks resulting in call outs of €100 eac time ans in once case a new tyre. The foam repainr kits are all but useless unless you have a tiny hole in the tyre despite what the marketing blurb might claim.

So I need a spare wheel and I am told that the spacesaver for a Mondeo will fit the S-Max. I have the 225/50/17 wheel so can anyone advise whether the 135/90/16 spacesaver in a Mondeo will be suitable as a spare? I just never want to be caught out at nightime on a Christmas bank holiday with a car full of kids again without a spare!

    Thanks

By my calculations, the overall diameter of the 135/90/16 spacesaver wheel will be less than 8 mm smaller than the 225/50/17 wheel. This is less than a third of an inch.

If the existing tyres are not brand new (and so have lost a few mm of thread), the difference would then be negligible.

So, my conclusion: that spacesaver will do you fine.

Thanks for the advice Esel. I would feel a lot better heading off on a long journey with kids in back if I knew I could resort to a spare to allow me to limp to my destination.
