    Hi

Can anyone recommend a courier service who can cover the whole country? Im thinking someone like Nightline or something. Maybe someone has a few words on them? Im looking for a company which is reasonable in service and price, but also one that Id be safe to ship with when Im sending some things which might be a bit fragile.

    Cheers

    Hi kes83,

I have used Fastway for the last 3 years with no problems, I changed over due to price. We send parcels all over the country (incl N. Ireland), I don't think they have ever lost a parcel. They also do ok rates to England.

If I had to give a negative it would be they don't always do next day delivery, but that problem mainly relates to domestic rather than commercial deliveries. They won't deliver to a house unless they are sure somebody will be there to receive the item.

We get the odd damaged item but it is a rare occasion, if the items are packed well there should be no problems.

We have had DPD knocking on our door recently offering very good prices, they may be worth a try.

For personal use Ive been using wiseloads this past while and they have been great. Have sent some dj gear and it was in perfect condition on arrival and they were reasonably priced

Fastway, DPD, An Post, Nightline all offer similar service and similar prices.

If you're not vat registered then An Post will be best value.

Depending on volume expect to get rates from about €5 to about €9 per delivery / parcel. Usually up to 30kg is covered.

I send a lot of fragile items (containing glass) and use both An Post & Dpd. The only reason I didn't choose fastway was due to distance to their depot whereas both An post & DPD are within a few minutes of the office.

The journey from your warehouse to the dispatch depot is where some breakages can occur - so the closest to the depot itself, the better.

After that, one the items are marked fragile and packed well, you shouldn't have much in line of breakages with any service.

I would not touch fastway with a 50ft pole you are better off with an post or DPD

We use Nightline, tried in some stage to contact Fastway, only thing I got from them it was I will be contacted by a salesman for a quote, no contact since even, nightline always delivered parcels intact and in time.
We did not tried to find a better priced deal with another company , as I personally think their rates are quite competitive.

    Why such a bad experience?

Has anyone any experience with NPX? We're currently looking into couriers and they quoted us the best price but someone told me their service isn't the best. Any feedback?

I would also appreciate if people could post up what they are actually paying for couriers. I've been quoted a flat rate of €10 + VAT anywhere in the 32, for upto 30kgs. There are no minimum quantity needed each week.

Fastway are ok if you have a lot of volume but I am also looking to send items less than 2kgs, I don't really want to be going to the post office with them.

Price will always depend on volume. The company I work for gets just under €5 from both An Post & DPD, but volumes are 200+ parcels a week.

In the early stages, rates were €8.50, then €6.30, then €5.50 and now €4.75.

    Why such a bad experience?

constantly changing couriers, unreliable for deliveries and collections, damage and breakages

I've never had a bad experience with Fastway.

Incidently I was just speaking to the local Fastway driver and he said anybody but An Post! Obviously he wasn't being biased or he would have said Fastway or nothing.

He quoted me €6 + VAT for deliveries based on buying 20 labels and no minimum weekly requirement.

Absolute best is €5 + VAT for bigger quantities.

Not sure about where you're getting this absolute best price from. But they can go lower, albeit on large orders.

    Hey guys

Just thought I'd chip in my tuppence for the service of Fastway. Been using them for over a year and never any hassles.

Can I ask - do you pay for the labels and then a charge per delivery, or does the label charge cover the whole delivery cost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭AMG86

With Fastway you pay for the label. This will cover the cost of collection and delivery at the far end. Rates can be negotiated with the franchisees. You get different colour labels as your volumes go up. However they are not quick to tell you about this aspect of the business. If they were customers might give them more business. As for service they are not bad but can let you down on occasions. It depends on the particular franchisees.

AMG86 is correct. The system can be pretty straight forward. You sell more goods, the prepaid tickets cost less. Fastways system is to prepay. They also charge per parcel up to 25 kg and certain dimensions

DPD offer similar costs per delivery, but it goes on delivery and not package. E.g if your goods are in many packets, DPD will cover all of the packages as one package up to 25kg in weight. Might be good depending on your packages. They also offer up to 30 days credit so might be worth checking them out. You could also use one courier for one type of order and another courier for another type of order.

Not so easy checking them all out is it?!

You buy the book of labels and thats it. In other words you don't get credit.

€6+VAT anywhere in Ireland in my case and even less for other customers it seems!

It would be helpful if people could post up actual prices they are paying for the services they are getting off these companies.

Ah but not just prices.. because I've found price is generally dictated by volume amongst other things.
The price is going to be different if you are shipping 1 or 2 pieces a day compared to somebody shipping 400 or 500 pieces a day?
There's rates for multiples as opposed to single deliveries also.. So say 6 euro for box one but 3 euro for box two and up? So that price works out cheaper than fastways 5 a box rate? Depends on the shipping profile.

Shop around but be aware of carton vs consignment rates and also reduced rate for multiples?

it's a dog eat dog market out there so prices are at an all time low but also remember lowest price does not always mean best service :p

I had a car which I need to transport from QLD as I got shifted to gold coast. I used the services of a transport company named Air Road Direct and I believe it is one of the good companies which I have dealt with. If you like you can give a thought to this company.
