I think VW could make Alfa a viable "successful" brand in the sales sense, but I imagine they would also rip the soul out of it. I'm still excited when I see a Lambo, but nothing they have made since the Audi influence ( although probably better sports cars ) has matched the pure lunacy of Lambos such as the Countach and Diablo.

It could be argued that without VAG we wouldnt be seeing Bentleys or Lambos at all. The price of success is they become numerically popular that kinda removes the specialness of them... but there is no debating VAG are a top class car manufacturer, they do the job well in all regards.

Fiat will never sell Alfa to VW, they are not stuck for cash at the moment, so why should they sell? Also, Fiat wants to bring Alfa back to the american market, and they now have access to the Chrysler dealer network, it could actually work.

I actually think Audi should be commended for their approach to Lambo. Even the factory is still the same there in Sant Agata, except when I was there the company cars were all Audi's! :)
But having said that, I think VW would ruin Alfa, by sticking A4 platforms under the 159 sucessor.
They can't do the like of that with Lambo, so that's why the LP 670 SV is still savage!
