Mouse pointer issue.

Having an issue with an old laptop, 8 year old HP, XP operating system. When its first turned on, the pointer flashes on and off constantly, more off than on.

Only way to stop it flashing that I can work out so far is to press the tab key after the laptop has completed start up. Discovered this by accident when using the tab key to go through some of the menus in the control panel.

Have gone into the driver menu, says all working normally, done a system restore to time before issue started with no resolve, not a virus as hardly ever connected to internet, although done an update and scan just incase.

Added any new updates from window updates as well just incase anything there.

Have tried using both the touch pad and an attached mouse. Makes no different. Am guessing its an internal hardware issue, and age related (have already had to replace the hard drive, internal dial up modem no longer works, battary totally dead, and CD rom tempermental at times), but any suggestions in relation to the pointer issue would be appreceiated.

If you go in to Control Panel | Mouse... try Pointer Options to start with.. . can you change the settings in there.. sounds like it's just a software configuration issue not hardware...

(you could prove this by booting to Ubuntu CD, but it's hardly worth it)

LOL, its alway the simplier fixes you dont think about.

    :D

Did manage to get into there before trying the tab key, had to guess where the pointer was half the time due to all the blinking but could see nothing stand out in it.

Anyway, it started woking normally again without having to use the tab key last time I turned on the laptop , so am thinking just a temporaly glitch.
