Getting replacement license over counter?

Hi all, feeling like a right eejit. Came home from my final pre-test lesson tonight before my test tomorrow, went to root out my learner's permit and...gone. I have upended my entire house looking for the damn thing. I know I should have double-checked this sooner but was wondering if I get the Garda form tonight and go to the Motor Tax office first thing tomorrow is there any hope at all of getting a replacement permit issued there and then? Long shot, I know, but I'll try anything at this stage.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

    Hi

Sorry to hear about the problem with your permit. I don't think they will issue them straight over the counter. I remember trying this a couple of years ago when I was asked to produce by the guards and couldn't find it. Just had to wait for it to arrive in the post and produce to guards when it arrived.

When I put in for the full licence, asked could they do it over the counter and was told no again.

Hope you find it before your test.

Hi, thanks for the response - I didn't find it before the test but it is possible to get one immediately. You need proof of your driving test appointment though, some photo ID and proof of address. And of course the replacement form from a Garda if you've lost one like me. You'll need plenty of time, to go there (office on Queen St), queue up at the counter (took me nearly half an hour) and then they'll tell you to come back in an hour.

Aaaanyway, I failed the test after all that, with 13 blues. :pac: Wasn't exactly ideal preparation this morning to be fair!

Ah ok, well glad you had a better experience with them than me! Sorry to hear you failed your test. If it's any consolation, I failed my test with about 20 grade 2's the 1st time around, and got it 2nd time around with only 2 grade 1's. If you get a decent instructor and get lessons before as well as one just before the test, you'll pass.
The driving test is a pain in the arse, but once ya get it, it's the best feeling in the world. Best of luck!
