Sky+ Failed Recordings

Recently, a number of series linked recordings have failed. I think I know what's causing it but I'm not sure how to fix it!

Sometimes, when changing channel, I get the message "No Satellite Signal being received"... however, if I go to a different channel & then change back, it works fine??

I'm assuming that when my series linked recording tries to start, it may be getting the "No Satellite Signal" message & then defaulting to a "Failed Recording"

I've tried switching off the box & restarting. This fixes the problem but only short term. The box is an Amstrad HD.

I'm reluctant to reset the planner as I have a lot of stuff that I want to keep.
    Any suggestions?

I would assume the failed recordings are Free to Air channels, I have that problem too. I have to flick up and back when the satellite signal drops. In my experience though it makes for a broken recording not a failed one so I'm surprised at your experience.

I've only noticed the problem on Sky Atlantic so far. It's very annoying not being able to depend on it recording.

Funny thing, if I tune to Sky Atlantic before I switch off the tv, the recording works fine.

You seem to have problem with one of the cables coming from satellite dish.

    Hmmm......

If you switch to view that will usually change to dish input 1. You may well have a problem with input 2.

Use the services menu and check the signal strength and quality of both inputs.

if you can exclude dish alignment problems, it sounds like the PSU on the Sky box is on its way out. is it a thompson box by any chance?

Went to the Sky site... found a similar problem... recommended solution was to reset the LNB... followed the step by step instructions... problem solved... for now at least...

If the steps outlined above have not resolved your problem, please use the instructions below to carry out a LNB reset.
    LNB Reset
This process will reset the LNB (Low Noise Block convertor) on your satellite dish and re-establish the satellite reception and ensure the correct settings are in place.

    1. Press services and you will see the main menu with Options highlighted.
    2. Highlight the Settings menu using the right arrow button and press select. Picture is highlighted on middle menu bar by default.
    3. Press 0 (zero), 1 then select to access the Installer Setup menu (this menu is not listed on the Settings menu options). Setup is highlighted by default.
    4. Press select to see the Setup menu displayed with Lo band Lo Frequency highlighted.

The correct LNB Set Up values should read:

    - LNB Type: Standard (visible only on some models of HD)
    - Low Band LO Frequency 9.75
    - High Band LO Frequency 10.60
    - LNB Power Supply ON
    - 22 KHz Command ON
    - Single Feed Mode OFF (or ON for communal systems)

    5. Highlight LNB power supply and toggle the setting to OFF using the left/right arrow buttons.
    6. Highlight 22 KHz command and toggle the setting to OFF using the left/right arrow buttons.
    7. Press the green button to save your settings. Setup is highlighted on the middle menu bar by default.
    8. Press select to re-enter Setup menu. Lo band Lo Frequency is highlighted.
    9. Press the red button to reset the default settings - this will switch both settings back to ON.
    10. If single feed is enabled before doing the LNB Reset please ensure that it is set to ON after resetting the default settings.
    11. Press green to save settings. Setup is highlighted on the middle menu bar.
    12. Confirm that the settings have been reset and saved successfully.
    13. Highlight TX' PONDER - it will become Default Trp when highlighted.
    14. Press select to highlight Frequency.

The correct Default Transponder values should read:

    - Frequency 11.778
    - Polarisation V
    - Symbol Rate (Mbaud) 27.5
    - FEC 2/3

    15. Press red button to reset default settings (if they are already correct no change will be visible).
    16. Press green button to save settings. Default Trp is highlighted on the middle menu bar.
    17. Confirm that the settings have been reset and saved successfully.
    18. Press Sky button to return to normal viewing.

If your problem is still not resolved you will need to Contact us for further assistance.

Help! I just did a reset as Gerrymadden posted above and am testing a recording, it is recording fine but when I try to change channels it is telling I cannot record 2 progs at once and must cancel one. I'm not trying to record 2 channels, just recording one and trying to watch another channel at same time. Any ideas please?

Its fixed, I searched the sky site and they recommended a planner rebuild. i had also lost anytime content and it fixed that too :)

That makes a lot more sense. However, the worrying question is: why did the planner data get corrupted? Is it a software bug or a sign of disc or PSU failure?

I hope not but it could be something a lot simpler than those, my cats sometimes play chasing around the back of the TV and could have tipped some cables loose.
