I hate my kitchen

So we have the same kitchen since we moved in years ago and it was fine then but I hate it now.
Its a laminate finish (I think, not real wood anyway) cream and a light oak. The cream I can deal with but the oak parts I despise.
I was looking for new counter tops but can't get anything to match the plasticy crap we have or to make it look any better.
I would love to get a new one but funds just will not allow for it.
Please tell me there is something I can do :(

    You can paint it.

We have a 25 year old kitchen and have painted it twice so far. It used to be a creamy/beigey 70's style, so we painted it a bright blue and changed the handles to stainless steel and gave it a new lease of life.

There are primers you can get which will allow paint to stick to the smooth surfaces you probably have on your doors (not sure of brand name..)

We did ours last about 5 years ago and they are still looking well.

Have you thought about changing the doors? You can buy these in most builders supply stores, or you may be lucky to get them from someone who is changing their kitchen, as they are mostly standard sizes.

If it's just the oak bits you don't like could you not just paint them to match the cream bits? I'm guessing the doors are cream & the cupboard oak? take a door/drawer to a paint store & get them to mix a cream paint to match.

i'd agree with painting it. we painted our kitchen units, and got new handles. we replaced the counter with the butcher block counter top (not real) and new white/cream tiles. it looks brand new..

and with the colour of the counter top and tiles we can paint again in a few years when we get bored..

Some decent preparation of the cabinets and a good quality acrylic-latex paint and you'll be able to go for whatever colour you want.

Where can I find this acrylic-latex paint?
