Glasvegas - new stuff

I actually had to run to the radio to turn it down. I liked some of their stuff on the first album but the first 2 singles this time out...I really don't get it. A cacophony of synths and stabbing guitars, plus yelping VOX.

I actually can't listen to it, it has the same affect as a house alarm might have on me. Very dissappointing.

Sounds like a yelping dog trying be heard among a crowd of folk with vuvuzelas (maybe a little harsh)...albeit very high pitched vuvuzelas. Seems to me like they've lost the plot in salivating for this 'stadium' sound, something that White Lies may have run aground on too.

Is anyone else very confused about the merit of these songs? They seem to be on heavy rotation. Are there actually any songs behind this noise? I haven't listened to the album. And its unlikely I will be.

I think they really prove how poor they are live. They had a few half-decent songs on the first album but their live show is immensely boring and they bring nothing to the material to lift it for the audience, tending to rely more on lightshows than talent.

I'm not surprised by how weak this lead single is.

I saw them supporting U2 a few years ago (please don't judge me) :)

They were bloody awful. Geraldine was a decent enough song, but I didn't think much of the rest of the album.

Look at the suggestions when you type "Glasvegas are" into Google

The first album had some great singles (Geraldine remains one of my absolute favourite songs of the past 5 years) but the album as a whole was very hit and miss. I liked it very much at the time, but it's one you grow sick of pretty quickly. And I haven't seen them live myself, but have heard (mostly from people on here, it has to be said! :D) that they're rubbish live.

Haven't heard the new one yet, but just for the sake of Geraldine and It's My Own Cheating Heart... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and check it out.

Ironically, the OP's description ("A cacophony of synths and stabbing guitars, plus yelping VOX") sounds exactly like the kind of thing that I'd love! :pac:

Quite like the first album, ain't heard the new singles yet.

Regarding them live:Have heard horrible things from alot of people. Also heard great things from a few.Saw them supporting Muse in 08,and they were absolutely dreadful. However, also saw them while waiting for the Manics at Oxegen 09,and they were actually really good.
So definately hit and miss live, depending on the day imo.

They supported Oasis at Slane in 09 and were very poor, dont think anyone was paying attention to them that day. The Blizzards were on before them and they got a good reception as did Kasabian after them, but in between Glasvegas were rubbish.

Generally I really liked the first album and as has already been said on this thread Geraldine was a really fantastic track.
That said Stabbed was one of the worst songs Iv ever heard...........does it even qualify as a song?

As for the new one Euphoria Take My Hand the lead singer should be stabbed for the white outfit alone.
Add in a crap song and he needs a proper stabbing............Limerick style!

I've said this from the second i saw them live. They are the biggest heap of dog shit on the planet. They should fuck off playing that crap and sell their gear on eBay.

    Im sick of that tripe.

Have the new album and actually quite like it. Took me a couple of listens and there are a couple of dud tracks on it but overall tis pretty good.

Have to disagree with people complaining about their live performances as well. Saw them in a tent at Oxegen 2 years ago and thought they were excellent.

I really liked their first album, especially Geraldine and it was the filler songs like S.A.D. Light, Polmont on my Mind and Lonesome Swan that made it a cracking album in my mind. I know of an Irish festival who tried to book them a few months ago but held off....for a number of reasons.

I heard from a friend recently that they played a gig in Sunderland and mimed the whole way through. There was murder from the fans and eventually the lead singer mumbled his way through a few numbers. What with them changing members and him changing suit colours I don't think there's much left in them.

I was at that gig too and loved it, the academy gig a few months earlier was a great gig. Only other time I saw them was supporting U2 in croker and was too far away to judge.
