Hi I was wondering what are todays prices of full car respray. Ex. BMW E36 coupe. I know big places would charge more and small garages less with same great quality. Anybody had any exp. recently or any painters here?

You'll get more replies in the main motors forum I would think, I thought this thread would be about someone spraying their car :pac:.

Prices can be crazy for a full re-spray. Are you talkin about changing the colour or just re-spraying the original colour?

We're talking north of a grand. PaintDoctor should know.
Is it every panel? Probably as otherwise you might get variations in the paint even if the colour code is the same (new vs old paint).

Never had a full respray done but I found CarCraft to be very good for paint work, dints etc. Good quality work at a reasonable prince. They are based in Fairview, Dublin

For a decent job with proper prep work and all the little dings and scrapes sorted you're looking at about €2000 north of a grand really.

€2000 - €3000 for a good same colour respray is what I've found.

Oops, I was way off :D Does that include removing stuff or just masking?
Since it's the same colour sprayed again I assume with masking the engine bay and door edges won't need spraying? Just what's visible from outside?
I know nothing about spraying, just what I've heard so find this interesting.

Masking windows etc, various bits of trim would require removal on most cars though.

yep, for a same colour respray

It's getting the car ready for the paint is the expensive part, even cars in very good condition would have a few little trolley dings etc thatneed sorting.

Yeah you wouldnt see much change from 2grand anyway.

Depending on how bad the paintwork is you might be able to bring it up like new again by getting a full detail done for a fraction of the cost of a respray. They strip back a very fine layer of paint and then add a lacquer/sealant to the car.

Ive never actually seen it myself but I have heard good things. I know this crowd do it and they have before and after photos on their website.

It may be worth asking the question in the classics section as those guys are used to having cars resprayed

So, I take it the recession hasn't yet brought the price of resprays down?

At the risk of being hopelessly optimistic, has anyone come across a reputable outfit who were charging €3k a few years ago and €1.5k now? I think I already know the answer....:D

No, there's literally days of labour involved in sorting out bodywork no matter how good to to the untrained eye for a complete respray. 2k minimum I'd think. It's not something I do, but you'd definitely be talking around that money for a same colour respray.

In fairness PaintDoctor, I'm not one of those people who thinks respray costs are outrageously high: rather, it seems to me that in terms of materials and labour, it's simply an expensive process. No great mystery really.
