    morning all,

as the title says, over the last month or so, when i turn on the rear window defroster in my clk, it causes radio interference. its so bad somethimes i can't hear the radio at all. other times, its just a small crackling sound.

any ideas what it could be? and is it a DIY job or do i need a pro to fix it?

Common problem on cars (such as Laguna III) where FRM aerial is located on rear screen (i.e. Its one of those lines similar to the rear demister). I think what happens is the solder connection from the aerial lead to the back window corrodes. I know Renault just replace the whole rear screen as a fix. May be the same for Merc not sure !!! The leak-off from the rear demister interferes with the weak connection the aerial has with the rear window. I stand corrected if this in not so.

thanks ltdslipdiff , i'll look into it. hopefully its just the solder and i don't need a new screen, which i presume would be expensive...
