Peugeot 206 GEARSTICK PROBLEM

    HEy guys,

Ok - so i bought this Peugeot 206 (1999), like yesterday - went to start it today and the damn thing started fine but wouldn't find any gears at all. Its like the gearstick is just floating... Every now and again it would find a gear and move the car to a certain point, like up until I went past the bite with my clutch...

    Any help??

You mean the gear stick is failing to select a gear.

Pretty much yes, the gear stick just moves around freely :-(

Might just be a linkage problem. DId you buy it privately? If so, bring it to a decent mechanic.

There are two parallel links on ball joints between the gearbox and the rest of the gear linkages. They are plastic and can/will pop out. They can be put back in if you are stuck somewhere and will stay in for a while if you shift gently. But you need to get them replaced. The new ones should be stronger.
    I was that soldier once.

Hey, I have a similar problem! My peugeot 206 is exact same but it can do gears 3/4 and sometimes 5. But the gearstick still wobbles around freely, even in those gears. Can't get first or second at all. Or reverse. Will check tomorrow for the linkage but I'm not sure. WHats the ave price for a gear selector? Could it also be the fork pin perhaps?

I sorted it out, it was the gear link. It only cost me €60 for a new one.
