Yet another multi room question!

Right, I've had my main sky box and 1 multi room box for about 4 years. I originally had a phoneline connected to both boxes but got rid of it about 2 years ago. So I've had no phoneline and no problems with sky for 2 years without the phoneline.

I want to add another multi room but have no intention of getting a phoneline back to do so. I'm well capable of doing all the wiring to the dish and i will buy another box.

So can this be done without a phoneline? Will sky send me a card? Will they ask about the phoneline and can they check it while I'm on the phone to them? Do I need a phoneline to activate the card and if so, can it be a neighbours phoneline? Is any of this possible without shooting myself in the foot?

    Gsp fan

the reason for the phone line in the first place is to make sure you dont share your tv coverage with your neighbour -the secound reason is so called updates or transactions for pay per view - that rearly happen so refer to note one -no sharing

You can connect a box yourself and ring Sky to request another card, however a callback will be required to activate it.
You could ring them and ask the operator to pair it up (may work), or as you suggested try another household, but bear in mind that new activity on the account may trigger interest in your subscription and before you know it you'll be paying for 3 individual subs, once the callbacks aren't received.

    Had this problem recently.

Had Sky/Eircom for years and in November I changed to UPP for phone/broadband.

Rang Sky to make sure that the boxes would call back through UPC`s phone lines--was told yep 100%.

Hooked everything up for the new multiroom and in November I started getting letters from Sky saying my boxes wernt calling back. They give you 3 chances then charge you full amount for each box.

Anyway to cut a long story short they sent out an engineer to test the boxes since I couldnt get them to call back and it turns out that UPC wont work with Sky.

I ring Sky,tell them the boxes will never call back and Im not going back to Eircom and they say from the next bill I`ll be charged full amount per box.
Told them to cancel the account that I already had UPC cabling done in the house and Id be changing over to them for my TV.

Guess what--They put an "exemption" on the account.Basically I`ll never have to make the boxes call back.Might be worth a go with yourself.

Bear in mind I did have sky boxes calling back before I got UPC in so it might not work for you.But Sky seem to be ****ting themselves anytime a customer tells them to cancel the account---they even offered me 50% off for 6 months so that I wouldnt leave them.

I'm afraid to ring them. If I push it by asking for another multiroom I could be basically ratting myself out. I would love to have an EXEMPTION but I'm a terrible liar, and I'd have to lie my ass off to pretend I was going to cancel. ha :o.

I wonder how often they actually check the phonelines. I had them connected for about 2 years so maybe they just check for say a year and then give up. I would love to know how the conversation would go if i rang for another multiroom card. Would they just send it out and wish me luck? And when I have to get it activated would they know if i used a neighbours phone line which wasn't the number its supposed to be?

I've had multi room for 10+ years and never connected to a phone line, last November they started chasing me to do a callback. Seems they could be getting more vigilant on following up.

Hi, has anyone had any luck in getting the calback function to work with the sky box multiroom using VOIP phone line on Magnet Entertainment?

I would be interested to find out.

    Kind Regards,

    Johnny
