Any particular shade of red? I love vibrant reds and I have the first models own one here (red alert) and it is lovely but bout 8e

A bit cheaper and still lovely is barry m in 'bright red'

you definitely need a top coat with it though, chips pretty easily I find

My favourite red is Ruby Me by Rimmel. Not too expensive either, and I love the finish.

I've looked at the Stargazer red and it's really not that nice. Definitely try something from Rimmel. :)

Essie Pepperoni is pretty much a perfect letterbox red but out of your budget.

what do you all think? i'm awful at telling the difference between tacky and sophisticated :o

Mink salons in Donnybrook and Ballsbridge carry it - I think.

I think that miss sporty one is lovely!
Imo whether it looks tacky or not depends on your skin tone. I prefer slightly darker shades being quite pale skinned.
at the risk of turning this into an elf thread, they have a few pretty ones in different shades, light, medium and dark red.

Not sure how they wear cos I've never used them though. I find Rimmel ones are fantastic in general, don't chip for ages.

Rimmel London "Double Decker Bus" is a really really nice shade of red, not too dark just red enough for everyday wear for me. It looks a bit dodgy in this photo but really is far nicer in reality! It's pretty cheap too, think I paid £2.99 for mine!

I have the miss sporty one and it's colour is very true to what you see there. Lovely red and it's last chip free with a top coat for five or more days. So impressed with it.

I have ELF nail varnishes and tbh am not at all impressed with them.

I found, I need at least 3 coats to gets a noticeable colour (I have a pale pink) and found the varnish chips easily. I never got more than 1 day without chipping.

I have Barry M and Rimmel nail polishes and they are much, much better then ELF.

I have some No.7 varnish, but find they clump on the nail, so not worth the price you pay for them. Unless you want to spend an hour slowly painting your nails, stay away from No.7.

yeh the no.7 are really dear and the quality is awful! really dont know why they are so dear
barry m seems nice but they only have two reds in boots. a glitter and the bright red one.

    Agree.

I was lucky and used some of those €7.50 voucher so the nail polishes cost me around €1.50 each - had I paid full price for them I would have been furious lol.

I spent €20 a N.7 gift set for myself (not because the varnishes though) and the varnishes in it were ok, but still not great.

Personally, I'd stick with Barry M, Rimmel or Miss Sporty.

I've heard good thing about Chanel, Dior but I'm not brave enough to spend the money on them lol. They are far to expensive.

This is probably no help lol but the Boots near me has three Barry M nail varnishes in red I think. I can check tomorrow and if they have it, maybe your local Boots could order it in for you?

I use No 7 nail polish, it goes on really well and it lasts grand. I always use the €7.50 vouchers boots do sometimes though, little out of my price range otherwise ;)

Also Catrice nail polishes are really nice, they sell them in Dunnes on Henry Street. I don't know what the red one's like though.

    Good luck :D

it looks really nice but i havent tried the brand out fully yet :)
i bought Miss Sporty 150 today. its a good price and the colour seems like the perfect red but i wont know until sunday how it works out :D

THE BEST red I have found in your price range comes from the brand New York Colour, they are stocked in some mcnamara pharmacies and other shops around the country.

It is called penn station red. It is red but not a bright tacky red, but it is still quite vivid ...shot through with the most subtle gold shimmer that is invisible to the naked eye but just makes the colour gleam like a shiny red apple rather than looking like nasty shiny red leather if you know what I mean

Comes in at around 3 euro, and one coat is enough. It is quick dry as well as far as I know. Just don't get their huge bottle of cheapy looking red.

Ooh, actually at the weekend I bought Models Own nail varnish in Red Alert and I really like it! Little bit too orangey-red for my liking (I normally prefer bluish-red tones), but it dries so quickly and it looks gorgeous. :)

    thanks for all the replies!
i tried out the miss sporty 150 red colour on sunday. its a lovely red! application is so good and it spreads out very very well. been wearing it since. slight tip wear but its expected ( i type ALOT and tap my fingers on the table when i'm bored :P) needed three coats to get perfect cover (2 is actually quite good though but if you look closely then you notice it a little, but that could have been areas that i applied too thin a layer)
really nice red though i'd get it again. it will probably one of the first polish bottles that i will actually finish(and thats not just down to the size of the bottle ;)) its amazing for the price too! i think 2.95€ in boots.
