Changing disco1 from auto to manual??

Well guys I was just wondering is there anybody out there who has changed a discovery 1 from an auto to a manual?

I have a 94 disco which has an auto box but the torque inverter is gone in the box, I have both engine and gear box out of the car at the minute and was thinking of replacing it with a manual box instead of replacing the torque inverter in the the old box.

I have a few questions about this, will a box from a newer disco like 99 or 00 fit straight onto my 300tdi engine? and also is it easy to change the foot pedals and brake servo, and is there any other things i will need to change?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

It's doable but a huge amount of work. There's plenty of guys breaking discos here as you'd need to change the entire pedal box, weld on new box mounts, I think the props are different lengths plus there's all the interior trim.

I think gearbox from a Td5 disco will fit but many of them didn't have a diff lock actuator as they relied on ETC

You're probably better off finding another torque converter!

Good man sean you are on the ball again. It sounds like a lot of hassle that I could do without, so mite just get a torque converter and put it back together.

Thanks for your reply once again.
