So whats the best way of withdrawing money abroad (SE Asia) in order to avoid bank charges etc?? Do people just use their laser or would a credit card be a better option? I'm with AIB at the moment but don't have a credit card but one get one before i start travelling if i knew it would be beneficial.

Do a search in here as there are loads of threads on this subject.

Basically your best/cheapest option is to use a credit card as the withdrawal fees are lower than ATM card.

Definitely putting your credit card into credit and withdrawing money that way is the best option. By doing this you will avoid unneccesary charges.
I'm just back from SE Asia, and each time I withdrew money with my laser card I was charged 3.17 eur. This was regardless of how much I took out, so if you are using a laser card, take out as much money as you think you will need in one go.
If you start using the atm every day, those charges will rack up fairly fast!

AIB have recently limited Laser withdrawals to €100/day in most of the world outside Europe. Obviously this is ridiculously low and will cost a fortune as you are charged per withdrawal with local bank fees on top of AIB's ones in a lot of countries (such as the US and Thailand.) As far as I can make out they do not have such a restriction on their credit cards- I was able to withdraw over €100 in India on my AIB credit card after my Laser was refused. Bottom line, you are unlikely to be happy relying on your AIB Laser in SE Asia.
