In a years time i finish college. Getting a job will be difficult in this market and i was wondering will i be able to get the dole when i have the following:

Rental income of 850 a month
    2 houses
    Substantial amount in savings
Living at home at the moment but will move out if i have to.

Will they just see that i have income coming in,even though its only a little over the dole amount per month not incl running costs of a house and not give it to me.

Impossible to say as in 12 months time guidelines may have changed. At present you have 2 houses you do not say if you have a mortgage on these. Under present guidelines you would have to get proof of the capital value of each and the mortgage outstanding on them (if you have a mortgage), rental income from them would also be taken into account. Any other capital you have will also be assessed.

Im just wondering about present conditions..
No i do not have any outstanding mortgage.Id say give or take a few thousand both are worth about 200k each.
I may have close to 100k in saving.

It will be a joke if i dont receive any dole at all as running costs for a let house can run into fairly large figures with the amount of problems a house can have

you will not get the dole.why do you think it will be a joke if you dont get it?

At the moment people on dole get 196x52=10,192 per year
    i get 850x12 = 10200 per year.

The past 2 or 3 years its cost me 1-2k in maintenance costs per year

therefore my final income would be 10200-2000 = 8200

thats why i thinks its a joke..

Would i receive even partial payment or something?

Actually, i dont want to know. If you are not a wum, then please go ahead and apply for the dole when you leave college. Present your property portfolio and your bank statements at your means test with the Social Protection Inspector. Then, when you are refused JSA on the grounds of means you can appeal the desicion to the appeals office. A successfull appeal would involve you producing evidence that you cannot manage to live on a week to week basis despite being woth 1/2 million euros. When your appeal is unsuccessfull you can go on Joe Duffys Liveline to complain. im sure you will get plenty of sympathy from all the families who are actually trying to live on the dole:mad:

That's not the way it works. Unless you qualify for Jobseeker's Benefit the first step is a means test. As your means are far in excess of the allowance under present rules you will not qualify for Jobseeker's Allowance.

the dole is for people to live on. Its a right to have access to food and a roof over your head. You are not in the risk of losing either of these. Its not there to pay maintenance on luxury items like two houses.

Yes but my whole point is that i should at least be earning on par with the amount people on the dole receive

This is based on memory from 2 years ago but.....

you are assesed not only on your income but also your assets. If you have anything over 20K( minus loans etc.) You will be deducted something like 20 euro per 10K from your dole. so if you have 100K cash hanging around the bank then thats 8x20 (from 100k-20k=80k) = 160 = 28 euro dole if u manage to hide ur houses and your income. ( impossible now.)

To be honest if uv 100K cash and 2 houses worth 200K with a rental income of 850 a month then...u know what im not even bother to put u down. Uv obviously dont have any morales , as uv come on here asking about 200 a week with a worth of half a million.

Id say the dole will start laughing at you and probably try to get some of that 100K with a few sneaky taxes.

Why would you be wondering about the dole in a years time when you leave college anyway?

Would it not be more in your line to be determined to find a job for yourself?

Some people have lost everything and are struggling to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table and the kids in school, and you come along with your two houses and your hundred thousand in savings and ask do you think you should go on the dole????

GET REAL and focus on finishing college and finding a job...

I'm not even coming back to this thread because its making me angry as fcuk!!!!!

OK I am locking this thread. Can everyone who posted here please have another read of the forum charter? There is no place in this forum for people being critical of other users. There will be bans and infractions to follow.

OP as explained by some users already, capital you own, such as the houses, are taken into consideration when applying for Jobseeker's Allowance. If you are living in one of the houses the capital value of that one won't be assessed, but the other will. Any savings and capital over €20,000 are assessable, and based on the figures you have mentioned you will more than likely be means in excess. You can still apply however, and you may be entitled to credits.

It doesn't work like that. You have savings and capital - dole isn't about earnings - its about surviving.
