Civil Ceremony Information Needed! Venues etc...

    Hi there,

Does anybody know of any nice venues for a civil wedding ceremony in the Laois/Kildare/Kilkenny/Tipperary/Carlow region? I've seen a few lovely places online but they only cater for civil ceremonies up to 100 people. We need somewhere that can hold 140 people for the ceremony itself. Also if you find somewhere suitable that has not already been approved by the Registrar, can you apply to the Registrar to approve it? I've no idea how this works cause I've never been to, let alone helped plan, a civil wedding! Any help/information would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks Again,

    ShindyB

We had our ceremony and reception in the westgrove hotel in Clane, kildare. It's a lovely hotel with great service and the give you the ceremony room for free.

From my exprience if you find a venue that has not already been approved by the HSE you need to contact the HSE and they will send you some forms.

You will have to pass these onto the venue in question and then return these to the HSE. They will schedule a visit to ensure the venue complies with their requirments.

Thanks very much for the info. The Westgrove looks fab! How many people attended your ceremony?

The Keadeen in Newbridge also have 2 rooms approved for civil ceremony to cater for larger groups

I think you may need to send in the forms to HSE regardless of whether the venue has been approved before. We did anyway! The restaurant we're going to regularly holds civil ceremonies. Basically just rang the HSE to make sure they'd have a registrar to come out on the day we booked. The then posted out all the relevant forms, we gave them to the venue and they sent them back. They didn't have to come out to view the place though, I guess because it had been previously approved.

We had 135, the room could have taken more, it depends on how many you have per table, they have two diferent sizes in tables. They also have two rooms available for the reception, I think the other room could take up to about 350.

Its worth a look for sure, i wouldn't go anywhere else if i was to go and do it again:) and would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Has anybody ever been to a ceremony or reception in Borris House in Carlow?
