Hi can any body help me with any sort of a figure as to how much the following would be for the above car:

    1. A new timing Chain (fitted)

    2. A new handbrake.

    Thank You

its peculiar your car should need a new timing chain. it would probably be somewhere near as cheap to fit a second hand engine i would imagine.

it seems right to ask has the car been professionally diagnosed and are you sure a new chain is required?

also hadbrake is a very loose term. do you mean the piece of trim in the center console or the brake pads/ shoes/ cylinders or cable etc.

Timing chains were a very common fault on this model almera, as above i would imagine a good 2nd hand engine would be cheaper/as cheap to get rather than fitting a new chain. Handbrake should'nt be very expensive either

    Hi,
Got timing chain fitted on primera p12 1.6 which is same block for approx. €700,(other jobs brought it up to €950) 2 years ago. Also need to check if guides and tensioner need replacement. Its running much better now and idles at constant 700 rpm. It is a common problem with these engines. A secondhand engine may have same problem, hard to tell.
Not sure about handbrake, may need adjustment or cable.

cheers guys thanks, ye it seems the chain is gone and the handbrake is totally gone there is nothing there when it is pulled up, think the cables might have snapped

Am I reading right? Replace the engine rather the the timing chain???

A complete chain kit is less then €200(chain, tensioner, guides etc etc) and its less then 4 hours to change without rushing. Its no more hassle and not much more expensive then a timing belt.

As for the handbrake, that would need to be inspected as there are a couple of things that could be causing the problem.
