New Eye Examination for Driving Licence?

Brother was just in with me and mentioned he heard something on the radio about a new eye examination either in or being introduced for a driving licence. Also that the 10 year licence is being done away with and only allowing for max of 5 years. Has anyone heard of it? I just sent my renewal off this morning by post and was not aware of any changes.

Have checked on the Meath co.co website and it mentions nothing new.

    Anyone??

Just got my new 10 year licence in the post this morning (from Cork County Council) and as it happens I had the "must wear corrective lenses" endorsement removed as I recently had laser eye surgery.

There might be something in the pipeline, but nothing announced that I'm aware of yet.
Not my worry for another ten years!

Good news so, he said it was on Joe Duffy and required the use of some special testing equipment that was not available in the average doctors surgery.
