    Kia Sorento - Has a great 5 speed auto box back as far as 2004 , nice smooth changes, isnt bad on fuel and lots of towing capacity, a fair few knocking about with leather and climate control on them, nice comfy jeep

    I know its out of your budget and its petrol.....but you might consider it anyway!!

    My dad had a jeep once, not that one but the one up, gave him nothing but jip. Wouldn't go near one

    What sort of use is it going to see? Carrying loads? Dragging heavy trailers?

    Carrying loads, not that heavy but need the space. No towing, for about a year at least

    In that case I'd second Eric's suggestion of a Sorrento. Or maybe a Santa Fe if its going to be taxed privately (only a 2.2 where most are 3.0 or more)

    land cruisers are a mighty beast, but the 3.0 diesel is thirsty, so failing that as was said, a mk2 santa fe.
