I'm looking for a bike for my day to day riding around town, and something that can handle a little light touring.

I've been trying to find something like a second hand Trek 7.3, but nothing has come up in my size (I'm 6") for a few months and so I'm exploring other options. For instance an older MTB with rigid forks and a high-ish gear ratio that I could lash some narrower tyres onto. Steel frame and decent parts would be nice.

I don't have a huge budget, around €300, but I'm open to bikes that need a bit of TLC.

Anyone got anything I might like?

I've got a Marin Muirwoods 29er 21" Frame, It's currently in the guise of a monstercross bike (Big Tyres and Shallow Drop Bars) but the geometry is not right for me and it's giving me back pain. It's got 50mm suspension up front but you can still get up on the pedals a bit. I can put flat bars on, 8 speed thumb shifters. gearing would be 32tooth front with 12-32 rear, so you should be able to climb anything but occasionally be searching for a higher gear. Wheels are rigida taurus disc and I could fit 42mm tyres, currently has 2.5". The frame is steel and forks are coil. PM me if you're interested.

Looks like a really nice bike, and as tempted as I am by the steel frame, I don't need suspension or disc brakes, and I'll definitely need more teeth in the front. Thanks though!
