So I opened ipod today and its completely dead. Tried to charge it (used two different chargers), nothing. I tried to reset it by holding menu and middle button, nothing. Cant restore factory settings as itunes isnt picking it up.

The computer picked up an unknown usb device but cant find the right drivers then. Before I give in and take it to the apple store, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Sounds like the hard drive is probably dead. Is it within warranty?

    Sadly, no.

I was going to bring it into the Apple Store on grafton street. Do you think its worth it?

Looks like the hd is gone. That shop at the bottom of grafton street did say they could sell us a reconditioned ipod classic for 120gb for €89. Does that sound v cheap? Not sure whether to just hedge our bets and buy a new one.

if we buy a new one what model would people recommend? We really didnt need 120gb...dont really watch or store movies on it.
