Hey all, my Boyfriend and I are going to Thailand next week. We're hoping to go to Phi Phi for a few days before we go to Koh Tao to get his diving certs. Can anyone suggest or reccommend anywhere good to stay?? We're backpacking and on a budget, so something ideally under the 1000bth price range!

We've read and look all over the internet but I/m interested in hearing what other people have experienced there! Thanks in advance :D

You'll love Phi Phi, it was my favourite of the islands. I stayed there for a few weeks and experienced some of the best and the worst of the budget accomodation. I'd highly recommend PP Charlie resort, or PP Princess as it is called on the island; http://www.ppcharlie.com/ it's about 600bht per night for a double room with a/c, there's a beach front infinity pool with bar there too which is the best selling point IMO! Twin Palm bungalows are also nice, and right on the beach, you can get a fan bungalow for about 500bht, one with a/c is still under 1000 as far as I know, we went for the fan option there.

Oh and budget a return flight to Bangkok to either Krabi or Phuket, I'm in Koi Samui now and arrived here this morning after a marathon flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, and overnight train to Surat Thani arriving at 4.20am before getting totally screwed by the tour operator.

Who collected a few of us passengers at Surat Thani and then dropping us off in a mosquito and rat infested shed for about two and a half hours which is their depot and the congregate their passengers there, eventually we were moved onto a ferry and we all had to disembark the bus and get our luggage and backbacks and walk the pier before getting onto the foot passenger ferry for the 2 hoursish (I fell asleep) journey over to Koi Samui. An English lad I met who is in his thirties told me the entire service is run exactly as it was when he was backpacking here a decade ago, crappy and cheap!

It was too much for me and I am scheduled to repeat the whole process to get back to Bangkok, so will abandon it and get a flight instead.

Get vaccinated for lots of things, bring suncream (it is a ripoff here at nearly €10 400-500bt), bring wash and wear light clothes, nowhere is cold and think minimal, if you have a backpack get a rain over for it and it will be spending time of the roofs of tiny toyota minivans and the ubiquitous songthaewks, and in a tropical downpour your stuff could get ruined.

    Have fun, because I am!

stayed at the phi phi hotel, just in front of the pier when you arrive, have a feeling it was over the 1000 bht though, was a really nice hotel and in a great location. Phi Phi is the best of the thai islands in my opinion!!
