Car registration cert needed for car insurance?

:mad:Hi. I am really streesed out at the moment. My last insurer 123.ie never sent me renewal forms so my car insurance runs out tomorrow and I didn't get any notice, just realised the date myself. I wanted to stay with them but after they hiked my quote up by €500 for no apparent reason, I said I'll switch. So I switched to the McCarthy group in Fermoy and they're sending a pack out to me. I really need my new insurance disc as I have my driving test next Thursday. At first, they told me all I needed to send back was a copy of my driving licence and my no claims bonus which I can easily. I rang back a second time to confirm everything but this time I was told I would need to send a copy of the NCT disk and car registration cert too. Do people normally have to send the car reg. cert. when applying for insurance? This is stressing me out, as my father was looking after my one but has lost it. Any help appreciated

Yup seems to be a new policy with some of the insurers. Have been asked to send in a copy along with the usual stuff they want

Feck. Does anyone know how long it would take the motor tax office to issue me a new car reg cert?

It's Shannon that have to send it and i'd say a couple of weeks.

Why not ring your broker explain the situation and see what they say.

Apply to your motor tax office for a new registration certificate. The fee is 12 euros and it might take a week or two (maybe 3) to arrive.
Don't stress to much about your test next Thursday.
Have you got any proof that you bought the policy?
You are not required by law to display your insurance disc for the first 10 days of the policy. So you can fully legally go for a test without a disc if you have a proof that you bought a policy less than 10 days before the test date.
Obviously examiner might not know this, so find appropriate regulation and have it printed. If you do good search on this forum it was quoted here few months ago.

Kaji take a look at this post: http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68658682&postcount=10

Just print the legislation from here and underline the point 5. (1).

If the examiner has any problem with lack of insurance disc show him the legislation together with any proof that you bought the policy less than 10 days ago.
