6 speed gearbox is the main thing, 1.3 or 1.6 standard engines.

Autotrader.co.uk has full specs, just search a used one and specs are listed.

Standard ones didn't have alloys, electrics, cd player etc so a g6 or g6r is a good step up.

Im finding myself strangely drawn to the 1.6vvti sr (2000 -2002) model. Colm is the suspension differently set up from the boggo spec corollas? Presume its a bit stiffer than the regular suspension configuration?

Are they worth the premium asking price? There are a few for sale online. Thinking of one as my next car.

If you phone a fella about a corolla for sale, and he says, after a bit of a pause for effect "it's a G6" in a kind of a "are you sure you can handle it?" way, you are obliged to spontaneously shoot your load or the seller will be sound very disappointed.

Well, that's been my experience in the the past, and no - I didn't get as excited about it as the seller was hoping...

ah ok, i see its in a different insurance group too 15 as opposed to 11. anyone know what sort of difference that would make in a premium or any at all?

the corolla G6 is a six speed 1.3, but the G6R is a 1.6 six speed.

these were both sportied up versions of the pre-facelift e11 corolla (98-00), they were slightly lowered and stiffened, had s subtle bodykit, alloys wheels, different seats and a few things like that. visually the G6 and G6R are almost identical although i thing the G6 has rear drums.

when the facelift e11's arrived (00-02) they dropped the G6/ G6R names and named the sporty model the SR, and dropped the 1.3 variant.

if i were in the market i'd much rather a pre facelift.
if your looking at a facelifted model, watch out for oil burners.

insurance shouldn't be too bad, they dont have the same bad name as the likes of gt-turbos/ glanzas or trueno/ levins, but i suppose depending on circumstance it still may not be cheap.

Be particularly mindful of rust on the underneath of Corolla G6's imported from the UK (as with any car imported from the UK for that matter).

Brother had one some years back and I sincerely thought it was nothing special. You could hardly have called it a serious machine next to a 5 speed Corolla and hardly worth the premium at the time I thought.

Regarding insurance I'd be inclined to check with individual insurers....some may severly load premia for G6 models, others not so much. Your own individual circumstances will no doubt play a part here also...

drivers of regular corolla must wear (flat) cap facing forward
drivers of G6 corolla must wear (baseball) cap facing backward

Get a fiesta 1.6 zetec s if you want a great handling unusual semi hot hatch.
Corolla has too dodgy an image for such a mediocre car.
