To upgrade or not to upgrade

    Hi all,

Sorry if I'm repeating older thread

I'm looking for some advice so hope you can help. I currently have a Specialized Sirrus Elite (2009) & am thinking of upgrading to road bike with drop handlebars.

I really enjoy the ride on the sirrus but now that March has arrived I want to get into more long distance rides.

I was looking at the Secteur range (elite model most likely). I have had issues with my back in the past so the geometry of this seems to suit.

I'm just wondering if I should trade in or not & if I do how much should I look for my hybrid.

The spec of the Sirrus Elite the last two years seems to be lower than the 2009 model. Maybe I'm wrong! The bike has been well maintained and runs as smooth as the day I got it.

    All advice is welcome.

    Thanks,
    Seorg

I bought a Spesh Secteur Elite last May and I really cannot fault it. It's a great bike with a decent bit of kit. I'm a big lad and i had back trouble in the past also. The Shimano 105 is good and the only thing I've upgraded is the brakes to match the 105. The old ones were'nt too bad at all. The bike has performed really well and it's comfortable for longer rides. I did 65km on Sunday and I'm hoping to do a few tours this year and work up to 100km.
I have nearly 2000km on the bike and no problems. You could consider selling your bike on the adverts section. If you can get a 2010 Secteur Elite they have a better spec as far as I know.
You should also look at the Planet X SL with Sram Rival for around €1250. It's carbon buit it's in the same price bracket. The geometry can be set up very similar with an extra spacer or two on the stem.

I think you should keep your sirrus for local trips / commuting or maybe just for wet days.

Dont expect much difference on a secteur apart from the drop handle bars, it looks like very similar geometry to the sirrus (or other hybrid), so same upright riding position and not much lighter, if at all.

Just spotted this one posted by Lumen in another thread. Looks great value.
