Powercity Returns

I bought a Samsung 37" LCD from Powercity, It makes a electronic hum when its displaying blacks or dark colours, I have brought it back 3 times to the store, each time after the engineer has had a look at it, Im called that its fixed even though when I bring it home it isnt..

The second time I brought it back I have tried to buy a more expensive model but they wont do that either.

It seems that small faults are not faults to Powercity, the TV does work but that sound drives me mad, especially at low volume or with laptop connected with no audio, talking to the sales men doesnt help at all, I can do is keep bringing it back and hope the engineer will eventually agree....

write to them detailing what has happened so far say you are rejecting the set as faulty and ask for a different replacement, give them 10 days or tell the you'll go to the small claims court.

Yea, I will try that, hopefully the letter will work...

I wouldn't have considered a 2nd repair, never mind three attempts.

You have demonstrated a great amount of reasonable behaviour - now you should ask for of the other Rs - a replacement or refund. Replacement can include getting a more expensive model, if you are willing to pay the difference.

Time to play hardball with them - they've had more than enough attempts at repairing the TV.

When I brought it back the second time, I wanted to buy a TV that was 150 more than the one that I brought back(the model I bought is discontinued), I thought they would easily accept that.

They wouldn't accept that because they would have to return the original one for credit and then admit that it was faulty.

If it is a replacement you def want, put that in the letter and stick to your guns. You may end up having to go to the small claims but don't just give up. Keep a note of everyone you speak to from now on and what they say. Gather up any repair dockets you have etc.

Ìn the end I got a replacement , but it took a lot of time and effort, months of fighting. It has put me off powercity, I thought using a local store would make it better for problems like this, but online stores would probably be better.....

The story with my TV I purchased from Power city is another bad one.

When I connect it to my PS3 via HDMI it will occasionally flicker with lines running down the screen. I sent it back to them and they just took it in and sent it off to another electronic firm to look at it. They sent it back to the store after a month saying 'Nothing was wrong with it'. They gave me a bill of 97 euro just for looking at it as-well. I simply refused to pay for it as I had thought the Power city repair team were responsible.

After consulting the manager I got away with my TV as I had it in the first place. Still with problems.

Most places if it bought within a certain time period will be nice about it and say ok look we will replace it on the spot once they verify that its faulty.

If its maybe a few months old they can repair it up to three times for the same fault without replacing it, the 4th time you are entitled to a replacement, or store credit.

Dont be so hasty to simply jump on the small claims bandwagon. They should be worst case scenario. Make sure you read the stores terms and conditions when you buy it, i dont shop at powercity personally but i know similar stores which seem to be more reasonable than turning around and saying there is nothing wrong with the TV when you can clearly and easily re-produce the problem.

Bring it up with your PS3 and say look.. Its screwed, fix it. (in a nice way of course! )

That may be their policy, but it's incorrect under law. Under legislation, any repair is supposed to be permanent. If the same issue develops after the repair, you are entitled to refuse any further repair.
