I currently have an iphone 3gs and i'm just wondering do i get a iphone 4 or wait until Apple announce in the summer iphone 5?

my iphone 3gs is currently beginning to become very slow folders dont open as fast as they did before ios 4.2.1 came out. i know it could be too many apps on it or apple are doing it on purpose so i do get a new iphone to fix the problem.

all different views & replies would be much appreciated thanks.

Do you want a new one now? or want it end of July / early August. Make your own decision, it's no secret that there'll be a new one announced first week in June, the usual, faster, lighter, better specs all around. Do you want to wait for that? or have the 4 in your hand later today.

Id say wait till the iPhone 6. Aparently it will have a Full HD 3d 50" TV built in that flips out.

Depends on what you want from the phone and how you use it. If you can wait till June, then the iphone 5 may be the better option. Right now there are better Android phones on the market than the iphone 4.

    More like early August.

I have a rule of thumb: only get a new iPhone 7-8 months after it is announced. After that, wait. Anybody buying one after 1st March is making a poor choice IMO.

On the whole Android thing. I think people either prefer iOS or Sense UI. It's a personal choice. Yes, phones will advance with NFC etc, buts it's the basic things getting done seamlessly and brilliantly that will get a phone purchases. I chose the iPhone because I prefer browsing, texting, taking photos, apps on it than on any of the android phones I saw around the launch. Btw I hate any phone over 4 inches. Save the jokes lads ;)

I'd stick with what you have for the moment. I had experience with two of them and the reception on neither was great. The 3GS is a solid unit and you don't drop many calls on it.

Wait for iPhone 5, not too far away now. Or at least wait to see if Apple release a reworked version of the iPhone 4 in White with no reception issues.
Could be tomorrow if your lucky!

iPhone 7 will add 8 new ringtones though, I'd wait for that.

I heard that to, but its a projector you point at a wall! :D

I also heard it has a built in cup warmer to keep the cuppa tea warm!

Getting back to the original question, if you have to ask the question, then you have your mind made up to wait, otherwise you'd just go out and buy the Iphone 4.

You're right, I've never owned Apple device nor will I. Way too much control, I was in the Apple store in Regents street last month and the customers looked like people possessed

So what possessed you to go in, let alone check out this forum?

Clear your cache, do a full sync. Delete any big apps you arent using, turn the phone off completely for 5 minutes. Copy your photo albums off it and start a new album (I do this every 6 months).

Close all safari tabs. Delete your SMS. If you've a hacked phone remove theme-based apps.

Change the mail to 25 instead of 50.

Your phone should be a lot faster now. Wait for the iphone5 at this stage.

England is a free country, you can go where you want within reason. I thought this place was, but I have been proven wrong

I always hated that way of thinking, since it's wrong. This ISN'T a free place. And England ISN'T a free country, no country is, they can refuse anyone entry. Take your trolling elsewhere, and not England, they don't take kindly to it either.

It is, but given the fact that you say you never have, and never will, own an Apple device, what is the point of reading and posting to the Apple Media Devices forum? You have nothing useful to add because you have no experience with any, and you have nothing to gain because you will never be using any.

I took the plunge around this time last year and got myself a 3GS knowing the iPhone 4 would be out in a couple of months. Although I was initially delighted with the phone (it really is a super piece of kit) I found myself coveting an iPhone 4 pretty much from their launch date :o.

The one thing about buying right now is you come up for an upgrade JUST in time for the iPhone 6.

Well I can only speak from experience, and I have never in 25 years in England been stopped by a Police officer and asked what I was doing on a public road, but have here on several occasions. I heard a discussion on the radio that Steve Jobs is the most important man on the planet, I don't buy that. He designs toys no more than that.

Ironically, the designer of all that is Apple is English.

This thread is going nowhere fast.

Bit of light reading for you

Everything Jobs touches turns to gold. Say what you want, but you can't deny he has millions of consumers eating out of the palm of his hand, while the other is cashing cheques for billions. 2nd Biggest company in the world by way of market capitalisation, share price ten fold in a few years, on the board of Disney, co-founder of Pixar, regular meetings with Obama... the list goes on...

Apple Envy is not an ignoble condition, however it is shrill, hollow and tuneless. Maybe run along and bore someone else, somewhere else with it, hmm?

your thread got hijacked, but never mind we are going to bring it back. :D
Iphone 3GS is very good phone. I would say don’t get iphone 4 this late as 5 would be coming out soon-ish
I have 3Gs and didn’t really see any good reason to justify upgrade to 4. Friend has 4 and apart from display i was not too much impressed. I’ll wait for 5 to come out.

Good luck to him. He has loyal customers some of which he can extract money out of year on year. I heard he is not keeping so well, hopefully he will get over his illness. We could do with a few more of his type here

Folks, do not feed the trolls. Report a post if you have an issue with it and one of the mods will deal with it accordingly.

I'd like to remind everyone to be respectful towards other posters and to keep things civil. If you can't do that, then move on.

Whats the likely price drop on iphone 4 when 5 comes out? I'd be happy with the 3gs but my contract wont be up til June. If I can get the 4 and the tethering works well, I'd be able to cancel my landline and thus justify the extra cost. Yes, I know mobile broadband is not the same as 'real' broadband, but its a sacrifice I could live with.

But the iPhone 5 is rumored to be releasing as early as January next year, and some reports put the launch around June 2011, would you wait for so long?

January? iPhones are always announced at the WWDC keynote first week in June. They even use the same conference centre.

If you are even contemplating waiting, then you've made your own decision. When the 5 is announced you'll either get a iPhone 5 or a cheaper iPhone 4.

I found tethering speeds to be as good and more reliable than most landline speeds such as Vodafone and eircom. Has to use it while waiting for UPC to get delivered and was pleasantly surprised!

I don't know...a lot of the Android manufactures are touting hdmi connectivity to your tv..none of this apple propiertary bollix with composite/component cables and their connection.
The thing is if Apple opened up just a tiny tiny little bit and allowed flash/hdmi connectivity, drag and drop for music/videos I reckon their sales would exploded through the roof.
Whatever about iOS/Android all Android users are envious of how solidly the iphones are built..no andoid phone no matter what they say comes even close to it...on the other hand I'd like to be able to install Android onto my iphone :D
I hear a lot of twats running Appple/Android down in mobile stores and their reasons for doing so are complete bollix. They've really no clue about tech, just sprouting some shíte they saw on a website etc or what one of their nerd friends said etc.

It wouldnt. THe large majority of iPhone users are happy updating their phones through itunes. Just because they get flash or HDMI wont mean the everyone will flock away from android/rim. Flash is not as important as everyone makes it out to be. iPhone doesnt have it and it manages fine. better than fine.

Its been done on a jailbroken phone before.

TBH that article above was absolute crap. There is no way in hell Apple will bring flash to iOS, there is no way in hell it will be 4G unless AT&T and Verizon roll out a 4G network (which they havnt yet done).
    My predictions are:

    A5 Dual Core Chip.
    8mp Camera
    4 inch Screen
Slightly different design on the back (some pictures show an aluminum back plate)
    Revised antennae
    Possibly a Ram upgrade
    1080p Video (doubtful)
THey may make their new iPad 2 HDMI adapter work with iPhone 5.

Wait. I've been dying to upgrade for ages. I had a 3g originally and was waiting on the 4 until I dropped it in a dog bowl full of water while hammered and had to update to a 3gs last April. The 5 will be worth the wait...I hate the 3gs
