Listening to morning ireland today, the presenter stated that fuel prices were dearer in the north,i use diesel and nothern price is around £1 38, where i buy in Omeath cost IS 1 .42 Euro,so how on earth did he reach that decision, cars are filling up and filling 5 gallon drums all the time in Omeath, there is always a queue of vehicles waiting on fill ups every day

They forgot to convert stg to euros?

Fuel prices are indeed higher in the north. Based on the figures you state

    1.38 GBP = 1.62492 EUR

    http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi?Amount=1.38&From=GBP&To=EUR

    AFAIK 1.62 is more than 1.42 :)

I had a look this weekend...

If I were to fill up my car in Strabane (Tyrone) it would be 1.36 per litre (sterling). If I drove 500 yards across the bridge into Lifford (Donegal) it would be 1.24 per litre (sterling).

Bit of a head scratcher there

yesterday while driving from Lisburn i noticed i was getting low on diesel, pulled into next garage got £10 for which i got 7 litres, today just out of curiosity i decided to try 10 euro in Omeath 7.2 litres, a very big difference indeed as i get 1.20 euro to my £1 in Omeath at that service station, yesterday was first time i have got diesel in the north in years so never again

By any chance was the Morning Ireland presenter Cathal MacCoille? If so, he rides around on a bike, I've seen him all over the place on two wheels so he probably doesn't drive a car and knows SFA about the price of motor fuel. I don't know if Aine Lawlor drives or cycles.
