    Hi yall

Im living overseas at the moment but plan to return to Ireland (Dublin) at the end of the year.

I hope to begin a degree course in psychology (counselling) soon after.
Having lived away for so long I dont know what is available and which are the most regarded.

Perhaps someone here has completed their studies and can recommend an institution/course.

Obviously I want one that is recognised in Ireland/Europe but would also hope that it is recognised internationally, particularly Australia.

So any help would be much appreciated.

Counselling psychology is a postgraduate specialisation in psychology. So such a route would involve a degree in psychology and then Trinity's doctorate in counselling psychology (Cork's one is being restructured atm afaik).

Counselling and psychotherapy is also a separate profession from psychology with its own diploma, degree, and postgraduate courses.

Are you looking to become a psychologist who is a counselling psychologist or a psychotherapist / counsellor? The former will take many more years than the latter.

Lots of information about it in the first thread on the Psychology page - it's a sticky: here you are!
