It is true that masters is coming up in few months.
This is undoubtedly best golf tournament, better than ryder cup and olympics I feel.
The tournament need tiger and tiger need the masters.
I think he can win this year as Phil Mickelsohn has not performed well so far.
I think my of country men, sergio and miguel are probably best equipped to win master.

But it is tournament for Tiger. I feel he will win tournaments record at masters and finally defeat jack nicholson record in few years time.

On current form, he is more likely to miss the cut

The Masters was a great tournament before Woods and will be after he has gone. There are lots of other good players who I'd rather see win.

I didn't realise Jack Nicholson was such a good golfer........and I thought he was just an actor.

No i dont think he will.
Even if he manages to be in contention after 3 days id say he would crumble on
Sunday. He just doesnt look like anything close to what he used to be.

    no tournament needs any golfer.

Tiger is far from getting back to old tiger and he might not. It is like he is standing on the teebox and not knowing which way the ball will go.

I think the standard of golf has improved over the last few years. No longer can players get away with certain areas of their game not up to scratch and expect to challenge.

You can't expect to be spraying off the tee or missing greens and expect to shoot good scores. You might do it for a round or 2 but never over 4 rounds.

Tiger needs to go back to butch but I can't see that ever happening.

Emelio, I would think that Alvaro Quiros and Miguel Angel Jiminez would be best equipped for the masters......Sergio is only getting his game right!!!

Also it is great to see Jose Maria Olazabal playing full tournaments again, who knows he might feature in the masters.....form is temporary, class is permanent.

I have more chance of winning the masters than tiger has!
The man is a shadow of his former self, and is fast going the way of another former world no.1 too,
    David Duval, anyone remember him?

iitywybmad is implying that the OP is conno16 in disguise.
I dont think so, I think its a case of lost in translation with the OP who is genuine.

    david duvall ffs..

he has about 5% of the talent of tiger
not a fair comparison in any way
    wears cool shades though

tiger always ups his game for augusta, remember last year even
he could win, would be great for the game if he put some manners on rory mc, kaymer, luke donald, etc
i'd love to see him winning the competition on saturday

Looking forward to seeing Woods in the Masters.

He won't win, 80% of his fear factor has gone, but he sure does add some spice and it would be great to see him in the shakeup on Sunday.

i need to see some stats on that 80% fear factor reduction before i can consider its validity.

My money is on VJ singh and M A jiminez. I like VJs new putting style and if he gets a hot week with the putter i could see him wearing the green jacket again! I think jiminez could go along way if he gets off to a reasonable start in the 1st/2nd round and not too far off pace come the weekend.

also be throwing a sneaky 20e on tiger even though i have lost all respect for the man but i don't want him to hit form which is very possible and spoil my weekend.

Tiger is strongest candidate I feel to win.
It is true that he play augusta in advance of master competition. Some say this is unfair advantage, I say this is good planning.

Tiger and Kaymer and Mickelson and Jimenez and Couples and Goosen must be considered I feel.
It will be amazing competition in 2011. It is wide open amongst 5 - 8 golfers I feel.

Only thing tiger wins this year is "the big asshole award" he won this last year as well :D.
Can't see him winning anything on the course this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,990 ✭✭✭Trampas

why do people think that tiger is going to win anything.

he has showed no form to suggest he is close to winning.

I beg to differ I though he was impressive in his own tournament the Chevron World Challenge however I feel that GMAC's two massive putts to win that tournament may have set the Tiger back 6 months.........confidence is gone!!!

+1 - look at Sergio as an example. Harrington's putts have set that poor lad back by years - he's like a broken man.

12 months at least before he's winning again on a regular basis imo. Swing changes have always taken him time. He's the most motivated competitive golfer in the history of the game. I'd imagine his hands are blistering with the amount of golf balls he's hitting at the minute.

Sergio has had some good finishes recently so maybe that might reignite the flame..............

I don't like him personally though, something arrogant aboout him

he seems to have to practice like no other golfer ever known to man.

He also has a slight anger management issue at times......

Here's a little something from last year ;-)

Was Padraig in that bunker by any chance.:p

I am going to stick a few quid on Westwood, if he can get the putter going at Augusta he has a great chance. Woods can never be written off but there is so much going on in his life it is very hard to see him doing it. Best tournament by far The Masters.

He's a bad tempered ,spoiled little ****, I would love to open hand slap him across the face.

Saw Sergio break his club in anger at The Irish Open a few years back.

And yes, Tiger will be favourite to win The Masters and rightly so. In fact I'd be putting some money on him to win next week at Doral-a course that really suits his game.

If tiger brings his A game he wins by 5/6/7+ shots.
if he has his B+ game he'll be in contention at worst.

His record at Augusta is superb. Has won 4 times, has finished in the top 6 in the last 6 years consecutively. Has only finished outside the top 10, 5 times in 16 appearances and 2 of them were as an amatuer.

Phil Michelson also has a superb record with 3 wins. 13 Top 10s in only 17 appearances and only 1 finish outside the top 10 in the last 12 years. He'll be my bet.

He's a very talented golfer and I wouldn't call him a tool. However I really couldn't care if he misses the cut or never wins again. There are many other golfers who I would prefer to see winning.
