Well Nico13 and myself went out for the last day of the season today and saw plenty of deer on our way through the forest but not for shooting. We walked for a couple of hours until again I was looking across the valley to a new permission on a farm I got last week and saw 6 deer in the same field laying down taking it easy, as it turned out there were about 15 deer in the field.

So we up tools and head over and started the stalk into them. This took us across a couple of fields and into light woodland until we could see 3 deer about 50/75 yards from us, this took about 1 1/2 hours since I first saw them. Because of the lay of the field we coundn't see any of the other deer.

We had hoped to both get a shot at the deer but before Nick could set himself up they started off back into the woods. So I let off a shot and bagged this doe, a bad first shot that was back, mid way broadside, but the next round hit her square in the chest as she came towards me and down she went.

I made my way to first check that the shot was sound and then headed to where I thought the other deer would be. When I got there they were all heading back from the field into the forest. Again there were about 12 good size deer some of them bucks with good heads on them

We were in the light woodland today, behind the deer in this photo where it meets the field .

Cheers mate, sorry not to get to bring you out as well but too little time to do so much.

Next year hopefully we'll get together but we will meet up well before then.

Not to worry. I was happy enough to get out where I was. Some nice ground to walk here too. I'll give you a shout if I get behind on the bunny control up this way. There are a few good spots for a lazy evening's shooting. :)

Yesterday was a beautiful day to be out Clive and that looks like a very tasty result.

I was sitting at a computer all day trying to get a piece of dodgey software to work, I'm not jealous at all, I swear.

Nice end to the season Clive.
I went out my self but no luck. I can't complain as I had a very productive season. And I think there are still plenty of deer about.

I'm very happy with first, getting 8 deer this season, 6 last year, and the coillte lett I took up. Saw loads of deer there but I'm not great at at quite stalking, don't think I'll ever be :o

And then to get my first farmers permission and a deer off it.

So all in all a good season for me and looking foreward to next year.

    +1

Saw lots of deer this year all doing well after 2 hard winters.

I did not get one yesterday, but I did not mind so much; I had a great day out in which I saw woodcock a Kestrel, 11 Mallard, a cock phezzie and the fact that my phone rang while I was just getting into a prime position did not help:o

    Nice shooting CliveJ.
I'm in the process of looking for permissions myself at the moment as I'm trying to make a move from my .223 to a .270 or .308 for the next deer season.
Am looking seriously at a Tikka T3 Lite in stainless steel in .270 or .308.

Now, just to get those permissions...t'will probably put a few miles on the car to find them but t'will be well worth it !!!:D

Well there's been plenty of debate on 270 or 308 so all I'll say is the 308 does it all for me. And what I find is when shooting out in the open the noise is not bad at all.
You'll never go wrong with a Tikka but I got the heavy barrel so I could target shoot in the summer with it, I wanted to get a rifle I can use all the year round. For instance there's a competition on this weekend and I'll use it then.

My Sako 75 with synthetic stock for stalking but I don't use the mod.

I put on the Laminated stock for the summer.

At the midlands range. Pop up rabbit, fox, and deer targets at 100y. Full details in the target section here.
