Hi all, just a quick question.

I finished up work to start maternity leave on thursday, my Maternity Benefit starts from today. My partner is on Jobseekers Allowance at the moment and i am just wondering if my maternity benefit payment will affect his payment.

I am only getting the minimum amount which is €217.80, i am not getting half rate for our daughter as he is claiming full rate for her.

Am i right in thinking he wont be affected because maternity benefit is based on prsi contributions so i worked to be entitled to it?

    Thanks in advance.

His payment will be affected. If he is claiming JSA, he will be claiming for you all as a family, so will be getting an increase for you. Also depending on your earnings, he will have means assessed against him. If you are not getting paid while on maternity, you should get a letter stating the same from your employer, and give it to him to pass onto the SW office for his means to be reassessed. Either way he should inform them you are about to claim Maternity Benefit so his payment can be modified to take you off.

    Thanks for the reply cee_jay,

He only gets €239.60 jobseekers which is €188 personal rate and €29.80 full child rate plus €21.80 for me as i was basically working for peanuts each week but had to stay in employment so i would be entitled to Maternity benefit. I am not getting paid from work and only getting the €217.80.

I am thinking that he will lose the €21.80 that he was getting for me but thats it.

The maximum amount for our family on Jobseekers is €342.60. Because i am getting €217.80 maternity benefit do u think his jobseekers will be cut down to €124.80 on his payment..

The social welfare system confuses me as i was never on it before.

He has alredy handed in a letter from my employer stating that i wont be paid from work while on mb.

Is he on Jobseeker's Benefit or Allowance?
