I went on disability last year, i applied and started getting payments about 2 months later(i was backpaid for these two months as well)

But my illness started before i actually applied for the benefit and someone today told me today that if i have proof that my illness started on such and such a date that i will be back paid until then.

    Anyone got any info?
    Thanks

    Hi Fighting Irish,

I cant imagine that they would be able to pay u back to when it started. As far as i know, you will only be paid from social welfare from the time that a claim was sent in. They would probably question you as to if it started at such a date, why didnt you apply for it then?

Its just my opinion.. Why not ring them and chance it anyway, all they can say is no :)

Best of luck and hope you get what you are entitled to.

Ive worked from the time i was 16 and because the last 2 years have been part time or casual (couldnt find full time) i get the minimum amount of maternity benefit. Which to be fair is more than i was getting to go to work for 20hrs a week but still hard with baby number 2 due in 3 weeks..
Oh the joys of being from Ireland eh.

    Keep us posted :)
