Last man Standing controversy!!!

Hi folks. Will cut to the chase:

We all know the rules of last man standing.
Basically this week I was down to the last 5 in my local with a pot worth around €800. My old man was over in the pub so he rang me to get my choice for this weekend. He read out the fixtures to chose from as advertised by the pub themselves and i decided to go with Stoke beating WBA.

He rang me on saturday to ask how they were doing and I explained that they were not playing until Monday. He said that was strange considering Monday night games were not allowed to be chosen from. He spoke with the owner (who both my old man and myself now well as we've been drinking there years) and pointed out the mistake. He wasnt happy and told my dad that he would sort me out if i won. Now what that means I do not know.

It has now transpired that the other 4 players were all knocked out so if Stoke win tonight then Im the last man standing - so i expect my winnings. However all the remaining players will expect a roll over considering its a monday night game and therefore should not be allowed.

My attitude to this is ive done nowt wrong and its the pubs problem. However not sure what the pub thinks.

    Ive a couple of questions

    1. If you were me what would yo expect to recieve as payment? The full amount?
    2. If I forgot to pick in the first place - what team would I automatically get? My understanding would be that I would get the last place team. Or does this rule vary from competition to competition?

Of course should Stoke fail to win then the above doesnt matter!!! Come on the Stoke Men!!!!

If they have the Stoke/WBA down as a fixture then it is their fault and payment should be made tonight provided Stoke win. If they don't you are back in with the other 4.

I have been involved in 3 seperate LMS and the rule has been the same for each of them. If you fail to pick (or pick somebody twice) you automatically get the first team alphabetically that you haven't already choosen.

Best of luck with it anyway.

Well, it depends IMO. It depens on whether or not you knew Monday night games weren't allowed to be picked. I think more of a gentlemans rule should come into play if you did know, and you should be given the first team alphabetically as stated above, which, depending on whether or not you've chosen them yet, is Aston Villa (who won 4-1). Otherwise you'd be acting the complete bollocks taking the money.
However, if I were in your position (presuming you didn't know) and Stoke win tonight (1-0 atm), I'd tell the lads to let you pick a team by yourself next week to decide it. You could take the money strictly speaking (provided you didn't know about the rule) but that would leave a sour taste, and it's something you could do without in your regular pub.

Well as Stoke only drew I was out of the competition.

However was speaking to a few of the lads over a couple of pints and they told me that technically as monday games are not allowed then my pick should have been null and void. Therefore i should have automatically been given the bottom club as my pick (who actually won that weekend) and therefore should have won the pot.

Spoke to the old man about what i was going to do and he told me best to leave as is as it would cause untold drama in the bar and considering hes in there most days would cause him trouble too.

So left as is and it went to a roll over. 20 people left after 3 weeks and Im one of them so fingers crossed i get it this time!!!
