    Hi,
I've got a phone interview for the position of: Technical Graduate: Software Engineering with Microsoft Dublin. I was wondering if anyone has had this interview before and/or has any tips for what it will A) be like & b)what to do/don't and what they are looking for ?

Do a search on Microsoft in the forum archives.

I went for a graduate position with Microsoft when I graduated a few years back. I took a technical test, did a phone interview, then a day long assessment. The phone interview was very high level. Most of it was personal (talking about working in a team, resolving conflict, overcoming challenges, etc.). There were a few technical questions on my final year project, work experience and some object orientated programming topics. In terms of technical skills, don't worry if you don't have skills or knowledge in Microsoft products/development, if you don't have it on your CV, they won't ask it and it won't put you at a disadvantage. The phone interview was a peice of piss compared to the day long assessment.

I don't know if the above is still relevant.

Hey, how long did you have to wait in between your phone interview and assessment day?

I had my phone interview in early October, and was told they'd be in contact with me in early January, but no sign as of yet!

This is a very small tip, but I used to find it useful to take phone interviews while standing up and walking around the room now and again as I spoke

It prevented me from getting to relaxed whilst sitting/lying down

That's such a great tip and really underrated too.

I felt so em-powered while on the phone doing that. I think she could hear the passion in my voice!

Just to note I went for the graduate placement last year and had to do a 2nd phone/internet interview in January which involved doing out short algorithms such as reversing strings and linked lists using an online collaborative editing tool. Didn't make it beyond that point since I got extremely flustered on one of my tasks and made a balls of it.

My phone interview was early December and was told to expect a reply on the 14/15th January. Next stage will be 14th/15th February.
