    Hi all.

My car has died and qualifies for scrappage.

I am putting down a deposit tomorrow on a new megane 1.5dci royale.

Does anyone have one here, and if so are you happy with it.

I have had one, the dynamique version, for 4 months. It still came with the old engine, the 86bhp, with no particle filter.

I've done 11000 Km so far and I am very happy with it. The negative stuff is not very significant. I think the worst is the reduced visibility on the rear, you have to be very careful reversing, especially if you're not used to longer cars.

Consumption is very good. I am doing 4.8l/100km, so around 1200/1300 km with a tank.

I'd buy it again with no concerns.

Thats great news, the one I am getting is the 90bhp 1.5dci royale, I don't want metallic, and I don't need the alloys. I am getting the 5 year warranty (unlimited), and the tax is 104 a year. Just got fed up paying 173 in tax every 3 months.

Bought one about 7 weeks ago. Again the only complaint is the reduced visibility from the rear screen. I have the 110bhp version with tomtom spec. I am averaging 5.9l per 100km. Shortish journeys but on the occasion I have it on the motorway the figures look low. Road tax of €104 is great .... long may it last.

What colour are you going for? I was really tempted to go for the white as the one in the showroom was white and looked great.

I wouldnt worry about road tax too much. When you think youl be loosing 3 grand a year on a new car+interest on the loan of another say 1000, its 4k, versus saving 500 say in road a year its small change. Then again a new car is well new, enjoy it, looks like a lovely car:)

DCMRAAD good luck with the new car.

Dont want to put you off, just my Grand Scenic story.

Bought new in 2005 (1.6 petrol dynamique). was fine for 27 months (came with 24 month warranty), since then:

    Dephaser Pulley kaput, €650
Front suspension ball joints -twice, €400
Ignition coil packs replaced twice, €400
Dashboard blackout, €120, special deal from Renault thanks to "Watchdog" tv show!
Electric Handbrake unit kaput,€950 sealed unit, cant be serviced, im told
A/C fan control kaput -twice, €120 per time iirc
Cylinder head cracked. €???? don't know as I have no more money to throw at it yet.

Thats all I can think of at the moment. The car has been used as regular family transport, no towing, or high milage etc.
A Renault mechanic (non main-dealer) tells me all these faults are common to that model, maybe the new one is better. With the five year warranty, probably best to allow for selling it on as a four year old?

whatever you go for, good luck with it.

Renault's record for reliability has vastly improved over the last few years. Current models are alot less troublesome than the model you own.

You won't regret, but I'd stretch it for the dynamique version. There are a few extras that are very handy. Bluetooth handsfree, the central console, the upgraded stereo which is decent and the roof bars, which I find very useful. I could also do without the alloys though, but they're nice to have anyway.

I was initially going for the royale but at the time I found a dynamique in stock so I bought it straight away. I've been very pleased with it since. It's the roomiest car I ever had and has the most comfortable driving position I have ever experienced, with the exception of the ford mondeo, which I test drove once.

I didn't get the extended warranty yet, but I think I will when I take it for the first service.

This is the version to go for, although I'm not 100% on the colour (GT Blue)

I wish all Meganes and Fluences had the dials as in RORs pics - most of them have a cheap looking digital speedo which I hate.

We have a 09 Megane III DCi. The ride is a bit harder than I would like. Apart from that and the speedo, the car is very good. No problems in our one in 2 years - not that I'd expect any.

For the record, here's my response to a recent PM re performance of
Grand Megane 1.5Dci Tom Tom 106 that I bought about a year ago:

"If you had asked a week ago, I would have given a 100% report on the GM but the water pump has failed since then and is currently being replaced under warranty by my local Renault. This problem came to light when I noticed that the vents were blowing only cold air, no heat.

While I am a firm believer in the maxim that even the best quality equipment will have some form of % failure rate over time, even in early life, I would have preferred the incident not to have occurred.

This incident aside and as mentioned I am very pleased with the performance over the last year in all respects, absolutely no complaints.

I guess the salient question might be: Given this failure of the water pump and taking into account the other positive factors (too numerous to mention) over the past year, if I could go back in time, would I still be prepared to do the deal that I did, knowing what I know now? I can honestly say that I would still do the deal, possibly relying a little heavily on the opposite of Aristotle's observation: One swallow does not a summer make. But I do like the car."

I would be interested to hear about how anybody else at or near the 1st anniversary of ownership of this Renault generation is faring as regards reliability / performance.

    Cheers
    Orson.

Standard procedure is to ask questions first then put your money down :p

Sorry for the delayed response but Bazz, what evidence do you have to back up this claim? The model I own was produced untill 2009 so its successor can only be two years old. And my wagon was fine for the first two years.... Also as the problems seem to stem from basic engineering issues, I don't share your confidence.
